Dec 16th, 2018 | By

That’s entertainment!!

The Canadiens scored four third period goals to come from behind and beat the Ottawa Senators 5-2 at the Bell Centre Saturday night.

The Canadiens got goals from five different players, three of them from members of the third and fourth lines. In outshooting the Senators 47-18 the Canadiens recorded their third win in the now-completed four season Ottawa series..

GAME #32 – BOUNCE BACK – Canadiens-6 Carolina-4 (Dec. 13, 2018)

Dec 14th, 2018 | By

There are a few ways one could take the Canadiens 6-4 win over Carolina Thursday night.

Importantly, it was a nice bounce-back from the 7-1 thrashing they suffered at Minnesota on Tuesday with a major contribution from the so-called secondary players.

On the other hand, despite a decided edge in shots on goal and territorial play the Canadiens could never get complete control over the comeback-minded Hurricanes which led to a tense but entertaining goal-filled third period.

GAME #31 – WILD DOMINATION – Minnesota-7 Canadiens-1 (Dec. 11/2018)

Dec 12th, 2018 | By

Every team has it’s nemesis; a team that they just can’t find a way to beat and more often than not are not only beaten by them but beaten-up.

Nothing in recent years has acted as cooler for the Canadiens like a trip to St. Paul Minnesota. The team hasn’t won a game at the Xcel Energy Center since March 2011.

In the six straight losses at Minnesota the Canadiens have been outscored 30-12 and over the last three seasons the Canadiens have lost 7-1, 6-3 and on Tuesday night 7-1 again.

GAME #30 – STOLEN POINTS – Canadiens-3 Chicago-2 (Dec. 9, 2018)

Dec 10th, 2018 | By

With the score tied 2-2 the Canadiens spent half of the third period shorthanded including six straight minutes after Tatar was hit with his third penalty of the game and then, as he was stepping back on the ice Jordie Benn received four minutes for high sticking. The Canadiens killed all of that. In all the Hawks had eight power plays in the game and managed to score once.

GAME #29 – BALANCED ATTACK – Canadiens-5 Ottawa-2 (Dec. 6, 2018)

Dec 7th, 2018 | By

Two games against the Senators in three nights and two wins for the Canadiens during which they convincingly outscored Ottawa 10-4.

Along with outshooting the Senators 43-21 the Canadiens got goals from each of their four lines. Paul Byron scored twice including an empty netter. Jeff Petry had a goal and assist. Andrew Shaw’s game-winning goal was the 100th of his career.

GAME #28 – CHEMISTRY FROM DOMI & DROUIN – Canadiens-5 Ottawa-2 (Dec. 4, 2018)

Dec 5th, 2018 | By

There have been times over the last month when Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin haven’t exactly been on the same page. They had it back in spades against the Senators. Three point nights for both of them and it was all speed. Domi set up Drouin off a two-on-one to make it 1-0 and with it tied at 1-1 it was Drouin to Domi twice in the span of 48 seconds to ultimately decide the game.

GAME #27 – ANOTHER SLUGGISH START – San Jose-3 Canadiens-1 (Dec. 2, 2018)

Dec 3rd, 2018 | By

This was the second game in twenty-four hours for both teams. San Jose came into the game mentally prepared to compete. The Canadiens weren’t. After going down 0-2, the Canadiens spent the entire night unsuccessfully playing catch up.

A poor Canadiens opening period is something we’ve seen more than a few times through the season’s first twenty-seven games. This one was bad. A turnover by Jeff Petry led to the opening goal, one that Carey Price should have stopped. A five-on-three power play gave San Jose their 2-0 lead. At that point eleven minutes into the game the shots on goal favoured the Sharks 10-1.

GAME #26 – WEBER TAKES CONTROL – Canadiens-5 NY Rangers-2 (Dec. 1, 2018)

Dec 2nd, 2018 | By

Shea Weber’s first game in a year Tuesday was very good. His second game was terrific. He scored the game’s first two goals; the first on one of his blazing slap shots, the second off a breakaway. The second was all-the-more impressive because he started the play by breaking up a play in front of Carey Price and then joined the rush to find himself alone in front of the Ranger goal for a top-corner wrister.

GAME #25 – FIFTH LOSS IN A ROW – Carolina-2 Canadiens-1 (Nov. 27, 2018)

Nov 27th, 2018 | By

There were a number of the Canadiens forwards who started the season scoring goals at an unsustainable rate. Inevitably that has dried up in the last two weeks and along with it the winning.

Forty-nine shots on goal against Carolina and a 2-1 loss brought the Canadiens losing streak to five games, three of them on home ice. The Canadiens have won 9 of their 25 games this season and with this loss finally dropped out of final wild card berth in the Eastern Conference.

GAME #24 – COMEBACK FOILED – Boston-3 Canadiens-2 (Nov. 24, 2018)

Nov 25th, 2018 | By

Which version of the Canadiens will we be seeing in the month of December?   Will it be the one we saw in October or the current one which now has an active four game losing streak and eight losses in thirteen games?

The home ice loss to Boston was a tough one to swallow. The Canadiens came back from 0-2 in the third period to tie the game only to lose on a four-minute Boston power play with just under three minutes remaining.
