PREVIEW GAME #68 Canadiens @ Calgary (March 9/2017)

Second of two meetings – @ Bell Centre Jan. 24th – Canadiens-5 Calgary-1. Canadiens led 5-0. Price lost shutout with 2 seconds remaining. Radulov with 2 goals, Shaw, Plekanec and Carr.

….The Canadiens have lost 21 of their last 29 games vs. Calgary but have won the last two, 2-1 in a shootout two seasons ago and 6-2 last season.

….Over the last 20 games in the series, the home team has won 14 times.

….Last season the Canadiens beat Calgary 6-2 (Oct. 30th, 2015). It was the first time the Canadien had won in regulation time since January 5, 2002. Their only win in a 13 year period was in a 2-1 shootout in October 2014. Over the last 14 years the Canadiens record at the Saddledome is 2-7-1.

This is the first game of the Canadiens annual Alberta/BC-Western Canada road trip. Over the last 37 combined meetings in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton the Canadiens are 12-22-1 with two tie games.

….The last Canadiens game in Vancouver was Oct. 27, 2015, a 5-1 loss. The game ended the Canadiens 9-0-0 start to their season.

Since Nov. 30, 2000 the Canadiens have lost 11 of the last 13 games in Vancouver including eight straight between 2000 and 2010. In the five games since 2012, the Canadiens are 2-1-2 at Rogers Place.

PREVIEW GAME #65 Nashville @ Canadiens (March 2/2017)

Second of two meetings. Canadiens edged the Predators 2-1 in overtime at Nashville Jan. 3rd. Pacioretty with overtime winner. Also Weber. Fiala for Nashville. Price faces 23 shots; Rinne allows two goals on 43 shots including five in overtime.

….The last meeting between the clubs at the Bell Centre was a 2-1 Nashville shootout win Feb. 22nd last season. Craig Smith with the shootout winner. In that game P.K. led the Canadiens with 30:38 ice time and Shea Weber led the Predators at 28:48.

….All time the Canadiens are 11-6-3 with 1 tie in 21 games vs. the Predators.

….The Predators have earned at least a point in their last eight games vs. the Canadiens

….The Canadiens have lost their last four games vs. Columbus (0-4-0) and have been outscored 22-5. The last time the Canadiens defeated the Blue Jackets at home was 2-1 Dec. 1, 2015.

….Columbus is 10-10-2 all-time vs. the Canadiens. They have won four straight vs. the Canadiens including both meetings this season.

….The last time the Devils defeated the Canadiens at Newark was April 3, 2015; 3-2 in a shootout. The last time the Devils won in regulation time at home was 3-2, March 24, 2013. It was Martin Brodeur’s last career start vs. the Canadiens. Since then the Canadiens are 4-0-1 against them.

@Toronto Jan. 7th – Canadiens-4 Toronto-3. Scherbak first career goal in NHL debut. Radulov with 1goal, 1 assist. Price vs. Andersen.

….The Canadiens have won 13 consecutive games vs. Toronto and 14 of the last 16. Eight of the thirteen games were decided by one goal; four in either overtime or shootout. In seven of the last ten games against the Canadiens the Leafs have been limited to two or fewer games.

The Canadiens last hosted the Islanders at the Bell Centre Nov. 22nd 2015; a 4-2 Canadiens win..

….Last season the Canadiens swept the three games against the Islanders in each of the last two seasons before dropping the Jan. 26th game at Brooklyn.

….The Canadiens have won seven of eight against the Islanders outscoring them 29-17. They’ve also won ten of the last twelve.

….The last time the Islanders won in Montreal was 2-0 April 10th 2014; Nabokov with the shutout. Ryan Strome & Brock Nelson with goals, both on the power play.

PREVIEW GAME #60 Canadiens @ NY Rangers (Feb. 21/2017)

.If the playoffs were to open on this day, the Canadiens and Rangers would meet in the first round; the Canadiens as leaders in the Atlantic Division and Rangers as first among Eastern Wild Card teams.

….The last time the Canadiens played at MadisonSquare Garden was Nov,. 25 2015 – a 5-1 Montreal win. Carey Price suffered his season ending knee injury in the game. Mike Condon finished the game after Price pulled himself after the second period. Devante Smith-Pelly scored two goals including the game winner.

….Since the start of the 2008-09 season the Canadiens are 6-6-0 at Madison Square Garden.

….Since the start of the 2013-14 season the Canadiens and Rangers have played each other thirteen times. In eight of those games shutouts were recorded – For the Canadiens Price with five and Budaj one. Lundqvist and Talbot for the Rangers.
