PREVIEW GAME #39 Canadiens @ Florida (Dec. 30/2017)

This is the second of four meetings this season @Bell Centre Oct. 23rd Canadiens-5 Florida-1. Weber 2 goals, Gallagher 1 g, 1a; Reimer vs. Price.

….The Canadiens have won the last four meetings vs. the Panthers. Prior to that they had lost five in a row against them.

….Since the tradition started in 2005, the Canadiens have played eleven pre- New Years games at Sunrise. Their record is 6-5-0 with 1 win in a shootout and 2 wins in overtime. Last Dec. 29th the Canadiens won 3-2 on Phillip Danault’s overtime goal.

….At Sunrise over the last six seasons the Canadiens have a 7-3-0 record. Three of the Canadiens seven wins were decided in either overtime or shootout.

This is the first of four meetings between the clubs. They will meet again January 4th at the Bell Centre.

….The Canadiens were 2-1-1 vs. Tampa last season. Both games in Tampa went into overtime. On Dec. 28th Tampa won 4-3 on Tyler Johnson’s overtime goal. The Canadiens won 2-1 in OT April first with Alexander Radulov scoring the game winner.

….Tampa is 4-1-3 in it’s last eight home games vs. the Canadiens.

….Last season the Canadiens finished first in the Atlantic Division and Tampa missed the playoffs by a point.

Last season the Canadiens lost two of three vs. Carolina. The Canadiens split the pair at home and lost at Raleigh.

This is the second of two meetings. @Bell Centre Dec. 9th – Edmonton-6 Canadiens-2. Khaira two goals for Edmonton. Danault & Galchenyuk scored for the Canadiens.Price gave up 4 goals on 14 shots; replaced by Niemi.

….Since the Canadiens defeated Edmonton 5-4 in overtime at the Commonwealth Stadium-Heritage Classic Nov. 22nd 2003 the Canadiens have won three of eleven in Edmonton (3-7-1).

….Over the last 17 seasons dating back to Dec. 30, 2000, Edmonton has a 17-6-3 overall record vs. the Canadiens.

The Canadiens have lost 23 of the last 31 overall games vs. Calgary.

….Over the last 15 seasons the Canadiens have recorded two wins at the Saddledome – 6-2 Oct 30th 2015 and 2-1 in a shootout Oct. 2014. Since January 5th 2002 the Canadiens record at the Saddledome is 2-8-1.

….Since the lockout the teams have met eight times home and away. The Canadiens are 4-4-1 in those games.

The Senators are five points behind the Canadiens in the Atlantic Division with two games in hand.

….When the Canadiens played the Senators in Ottawa Oct 30th they had a record of 3-7-1 and were eight points behind the Senators who were 5-1-5. Since then the Canadiens are 11-7-3 and Ottawa is 5-12-2.

….The Canadiens have won five straight vs. the Senators outscoring them 20-9..

In the eight overall meetings since the 2012 lockout the Canadiens are 3-3-2 vs. Edmonton.

….At the Bell Centre the Canadiens are 1-1-2 vs. the Oilers since the lockout.

….The Oilers have collected at least a point in nine of the last ten visits to the Bell Centre (5-1-4).

….Over the last 17 seasons dating back to Dec. 30, 2000 Edmonton has a 16-6-3 overall record against the Canadiens.

Over their last seven games the Canadiens have a 5-1-1 record. Since November 4th the Canadiens are 9-5-2 and since their 1-6-1 season start they five games over .500 at 12-7-2.

….Over the last 15 games Canadiens penalty killers have allowed 7 goals on 46 times shorthanded – and 84.7% success rate. Through the season’s first 14 games the Canadiens successfully killed only 71.4% of opposition penalties (14/47) and were ranked 29th in the league. Canadiens penalty killers now rank 20th.
