PREVIEW GAME #28 Detroit @ Canadiens (Dec. 2/2017)

Since the 2012 lockout the Canadiens are 6-0-2 vs. Detroit at the Bell Centre. The Canadiens were 2-2 in the four overtime games.

….The last time Detroit won a game in regulation time at Montreal was 4-1 on Dec. 4, 2007. Dominek Hasek topped 17 of 18 shots. Since then the Canadiens are 7-0-3 vs. them.

….Overall the Canadiens are 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between the teams and since the lockout overall in 18 games the Canadiens are 12-4-2.

….Over his last ten starts against Detroit Carey Price is 9-1-0 with a 1.69GAA, 939save% and two shutouts.

The Canadiens enter this game one point behind Boston for the third and final playoff berth in the Atlantic Division. Boston holds three games in hand. They are tied with Detroit at 25 points. Detroit has a game in hand.

….The Canadiens are looking for their fourth consecutive win for the first time this season.

….A win would bring the Canadiens up to the .500 mark for the first time since before the second game of the season.



PREVIEW GAME #26 Ottawa @ Canadiens (Nov. 29/2017)

When the teams met in October at Ottawa the Senators were 5-1-5 to start the season and the Canadiens 3-7-1 and eight points behind them. Since then the Canadiens are 7-5-1 the Senators 3-7-1.

….While the Canadiens lead the Senators by a point in the Atlantic Division, Ottawa holds three games in hand.

….The Senators have lost four straight games against the Canadiens.



PREVIEW GAME #24 Buffalo @ Canadiens (Nov. 25/2017)

The Canadiens and Sabres have met a total of 24 times since the 2012 lockout. In those games the Canadiens have a 14-6-2 record. Seven of those games were decided in either overtime or shootout with the Canadiens winning four.

….At the Bell Centre the Canadiens are 6-3-3 vs. Buffalo since the lockout. Four of the 12 decided in extra time with Buffalo winning three.

….Over the last ten seasons the Canadiens have played Buffalo a total of 48 times. Seventeen of those games have gone to overtime or shootout. Buffalo has won 11 of them.

.Last season’s overtime win was only the second for the Canadiens at Bridgestone Arena since March 10th 2003. The 2003 win was also their only regulation win at Nashville since they entered the league twenty years ago.

….Since the start of the 2011-2012 season four of the five games at Nashville have been decided in overtime with the Canadiens winning three of them (Max Pacioretty with 2 OT winners; David Desharnais with the other)

….The Predators have earned at least a point in eight of their last nine overall games vs. the Canadiens.

….Overall Nashville has earned at least a point in 10 of the last meetings with the Canadiens dating back to Nov. 14, 2009.



PREVIEW & STATS -GAME #22 – Canadiens @ Dallas (Nov. 21/2017)

This is the first of back-to-back games (atNashville Wednesday) and the 4th of fourteen this season. The Canadiens were swept in the first two back-to-back series this season and then swept their most recent with an OT win at Winnipeg followed by a shutout win in Chicago.

….Canadiens goalt ending is now worst in the league at .886 save percentage; Canadiens shooting percentage is last in the league at 6.5% despite ranking 13th in shots against per game. (Tampa leads at 12.4%)

….The Canadiens have lost three games in a row and four of the last five. (1-3-1). Prior to that they had won five of six (4-1-1) and crept to within a win of .500. They are again 3 wins below .500.



STATS PREVIEW GAME #21 – Toronto vs. Canadiens (Nov. 18/2017)

The overtime Toronto overtime win Oct 14 ended a 14 game Canadiens winning streak over the Leafs dating back to January 18, 2014.

…..toronto’s win also ended an eight game home Canadiens winning streak dating back to the season opener Oct. 1, 2013.

….Over the last 15 games (14-0-1) the Canadiens have outscored Toronto 49-31.



EMBARRASSED AT HOME – Arizona-5 Canadiens-4 (Nov. 16, 2017)

For the first time in his career Charlie Lindgren allowed more than two goals and  still he could have been named a one of the game stars.

Lindgren stopped four breakaways in the game, three of them while the Canadiens were on the same power play including two from Derek Stepan within ten seconds of each other .

 I thought the first Arizona goal was stoppable. His chances of preventing the other four ranged from slim to nil.  



STATS PREVIEW GAME #20 Arizona @ Canadiens (Nov. 16/2017)

At the Bell Centre the Coyotes have an all-time record of 2-20-1 with two ties. Over that stretch they have been outscored 107 to 48.

….The Canadiens won both of last season’s meetings. @Bell Centre Oct 20th – Canadiens-5 Coyotes-2. @Arizona Feb. 9th – Canadiens-5 Coyotes-4.

….In the two meetings last season Max Pacioretty had points on half of the Canadiens goals (2g, 3a). Alex Galchenyuk also scored 2 goals.
