UPDATE– The Canadiens have recalled defenseman Frederic St. Denis from their Hamilton farm team. The 25-year old St. Denis tied for second on the Bulldogs and tied for 11th among AHL defenders with eight points (3 goals and 5 assists) in 14 games this season.
Here’s the good news. Andrei Markov practiced with his teammates for the second straight day.
The bad news is, he’s still at least a couple of weeks away from playing and the Canadiens have only five healthy defensemen available for tomorrow night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Nobody has been called up from Hamilton yet but it’s expected that either Frederic St. Denis or the veteran Alex Henry will get the call sometime after the Bulldogs play Grand Rapids tonight in Hamilton.
The situation is this….Hal Gill is sick, Jaroslav Spacek may have reinjured his ribs in a collision with Buffalo’s Patrick Kaleta.. That leaves the Canadiens with a defence that includes one veteran, Josh Gorges and four others with less than two full years NHL experience.
Up front there’s the same good-news, bad-news scenario. After sitting out last night’s game Michael Cammalleri practiced with Lars Eller and Aaron Palushaj but Andrei Kostitsyn and Andreas Engqvist were absent.
So here’s the damage – Markov, Chris Campoli and Ryan White are on injury reserve. Andrei Kostitsyn is out with a groin injury. Spacek has a rib injury, Engqvist missed the last half of the Buffalo game with a lower body problem. Gill is sick and Cammalleri is trying to play through what might be a charley-horse. The injury list could number seven for tomorrow’s Carolina game.
Today’s practice lines

Pacioretty Desharnais Cole
Cammalleri Eller Palushaj
