Game #18

Carolina vs. Canadiens

Bell Centre – Nov. 16/2011 – 7:05pm

Notes –

…….This will be Erik Cole’s first game against his former team since signing with the Canadiens as an unrestricted free agent on July first and only his second ever.  He played in one game against them as a member of the Edmonton Oilers Nov. 1, 2008, registering two shots without a point.   Cole spent all but 63 games over nine seasons with the Hurricanes.  As a member of the Hurricanes, Cole scored 25 points in 28 games against the Canadiens.

…….Off to a slow start, Eric Staal, who was Cole’s centre when he scored 26 goals last season, the last two games has been left wing on a line centered by Brandon Sutter.

…… Before losing both of last season’s visits to the Bell Centre, Carolina had gotten points in 11 consecutive games in Montreal (8-0-3).

…….Defenseman Frederic St. Denis will make his NHL debut in the game.  He and Mathieu Darche are two of the rare players to reach the NHL after playing Canadian University hockey.  St. Denis played at Trois Rivieres, Darche-McGill.  The Canadiens signed St. Denis as an undrafted free agent.

……Carolina goaltender Cam Ward has givien up at least three goals in six consecutive starts and was pulled in the loss to the Flyers

…… The Canadiens are just 2-for-20 (10%) on the power play this month.  However, last season the Habs were  8 for 15 on the power play against the Hurricanes.

……The Hurricanes have lost five straight games and have  been outscored 21-9 on the road  since a victory in Boston on Oct. 18.

…….Tomas Plekanec had two goals and seven assists in four games versus the Hurricanes  last year.
