Game Notes

….. Winnipeg is 6-1-1 at home in December but they have lost  two of their last three, including a 3-2 shootout loss to the Islanders on Tuesday,

….. The Canadiens are still looking for their first win under new head coach Randy Cunneyworth, who got the job Saturday when Jacques Martin was fired. They are 0-3-0 since the Martin firing.  Cunneyworth has the dubious distinction of being the first Canadiens coach in the team’s history to lose his first three games behind the bench.   Overall they’ve lost four in a row.

…… P.K. Subban was minus-2 in each of the back-to-back road losses to the Hawks and Bruins this week.

….. Tomas Plekanec  leads the Canadiens with 27 points despite ranking last with a minus-8. He was a minus-three while assisting on Montreal’s lone goal – a power-play tally by Andrei Kostitsyn – on Wednesday.

…..Michael Cammalleri has only three goals his last 24 games.

….. The Canadiens are 11-8-5 all-time in Winnipeg, including 23 visits against the original Jets before that franchise moved to Phoenix in 1996

…… The Jets are 11-5-1 at the MTS Centre, but fell to 2-1-1 on their current six-game homestand after losing 3-2 in a shootout to the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

. … The Canadiens lead the NHL with seven post-regulation losses.

…… In his last three starts, all losses, Carey Price has a 4.08 goals-against average.   In December he has a record of 3-4-3 with a save percentage of .910.

……..Evander Kane leads the Jets with 15 goals and 25 points, but  has one assist in his last four games. He failed to score against the Islanders despite six shots on goal.

……Longtime linemates Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez are both out with injuries. Gomez has missed 13 games with a groin injury, Gionta has been out the last six.

……Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec has allowed three goals on 61 shots over his last two starts, but has lost both games..
