The Toronto Marlies scored three times in the first period Saturday en route to a 7-2 over the Hamilton Bulldogs  in an outdoor  game played at Ivor Wynne Stadium.

The game was played in front of 20,565  the largest crowd ever to see an American Hockey  League game in Canada breaking the  previous  record of 17,428 set at Hamilton’s Copps Coliseum during the 2003 Calder Cup final.  The AHL overall attendance record is  45,653 (Citizen’s Bank Park, Philadelphia-January 6th, 2012).

Greg Scott scored twice for Toronto, while Nicolas Deschamps added a goal and two assists.   Mike Zigomanis,Drew Paris, Marcel Mueller and Joe Colborne also scored for the Marlies, who got 19 saves from Ben Scrivens.

Dany Masse and Louis Leblanc replied for Hamilton (18-17-5).   Garrett Stafford assisted on the Masse goal, extending his personal points streak to eight games.  Nathan Lawson stopped 20 shots for the Bulldogs. Lawson was making his first appearance in net since Jan. 6.

The ice was fast but the game suffered long delays twice in the second period for repairs.  Skies were sunny and the temperature was -4 C.

Hamilton leads the season series 3-2. The teams play seven more times in 2012

The Bulldogs next game will be Tuesday  in Cleveland, Ohio against the Lake Erie Monsters
