UPDATE –  From NHL NEW YORK — Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers has been suspended, without pay, for three games for boarding Montreal Canadiens forward  Scott Gomez during NHL Game #1033 in Buffalo on Monday, March 12, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Myers will forfeit $14,189.19. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

(You can see the video release of Shanahan’s rationale for the suspension below.)  Interesting to note, Gomez took just one shift in the games’ final eleven and a half minutes, including the overtime.    Shanahan says in his ruling that part of his decision was based on the fact that Gomez was “injured on the play” something that has never been revealed by the Canadiens.

As for Myers, he suspected there was going to be supplementary discipline.  He told the Buffalo News Tuesday morning prior to the hearing, “I’m probably expecting something.  We’ll see what happens. Whatever they decide, I’ll have to live with.”

I think Shanahan will suspend him because this is not the first time!!!! He did the same thing to Johnny Boychuck of the Bruins in Buffalo on the 16th of April.last year. Boychuck was not severly injured and the kid got away with it …but I don’t think he will this time !!!!

.When are Shanahan and the referees going to get on the page? What does it say about the refs that only handed out a minor penalty to Myers?I know there is no way of knowing the outcome of a game, but in this instance,if the referees make the right call,Myers is out of the game and doesn’t get the winning goal.
