Canadiens vs. Ottawa

Game Notes –

……The Canadiens and Ottawa will complete their six game season series with three games over the next nine days.

…….Defenseman Frédéric St. Denis has been recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs and will be available for the game.  He replaces forward Scott Gomez on the roster.  Gomez is out with a concussion suffered Monday night in Buffalo.

…….The Canadiens, who lead the league in injuries, have not had fewer than five regulars out of their lineup at any one time, since October 22nd, their sixth game of the season.

…….Since the last time the Canadiens and Senators met January 14th Ottawa has a record of 11-10-3 and remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.   The Canadiens over their last 26 games are 11-12-3 and have fallen from 11th to 15th in the East.  Both teams are 2-2-1 their last five games.

…….Once again the Canadiens have six regulars on their injury list.

…….The Habs are 6-1-2 in their past nine games against the Senators.

…….The Senators go into the game just two points behind Boston for the Northeast Division lead.  The Bruins have lost three in a row but hold a game in hand over Ottawa.  The Senators are 9-3-2 since Feb. 9.

…….The Canadiens have dropped eight of the last 11.

…….Against Ottawa, since the start of the 2010-2011 season Carey Price is 6-1-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average and a shutout.

…….Price is 2-6-0 with a 3.01 goals-against average since Feb. 19 will make his fourth start of the season against the Senators.

…… Ben Bishop was acquired from St. Louis before the trade deadline for a second round draft pick.  He made 38 saves in Saturday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Buffalo after stopping 50 of 54 shots in winning his first two starts. Prior to joining Ottawa he had only eight career starts.   This will be his first start against Montreal.

…….Ottawa’s top three goal scorers – Milan Michalek (32), Jason Spezza (29) and Daniel Alfredsson (22) – have combined for two goals in the three games both by Spezza.   Erik Karlsson the NHL’s leading scorer among defensemen has 18 goals has only one assist in the season series against Montreal.

……Erik Karlsson, among defensemen,  has a league leading 18 goals.  He is one away from matching Steve Duchesne’s franchise-mark of 19  set in 1996-97. ..

The Canadiens gave up a goal in the second minute of their game in Ottawa and then roared back with five in a row en route to their 6-2 win over the Senators. Lars Eller with a shorthanded goal plus Plekanec, Cammalleri,  Leblanc,  Subban and  Cole.  Zack Smith and Jason Spezza scored for Ottawa, who outshot the Candiiens 35-28   @Bell Centre Jan. 14/2012 – Ottawa-3 Canadiens-2 (shootout) . Daniel Alfredsson scored the only goal in the shootout.  when Max Pacioretty scored with 38.9 seconds remaining in regulation time with Carey Price on the bench for the extra attacker.  All of the scoring took place in the third period. Tomas Plekanec scored a shorthand goal followed by goals from Kyle Turris and Jason Spezza.    The Canadiens outshot the Senators 35-25
