81-Lars Eller & 14-Tomas Plekanec At World Championships-Stockholm

UPDATED – FOLLOWING GAMES FRIDAY – Max Pacioretty drew the primary assist in the winning goal of a 3-2 overtime victory over Khazakstan.  Through five teams he leads Team USA with 1 goal and 7 assists.  In their 7-3 win over Sweden Russia’s Alexei Emelin scored the goal that tied the game at 3-3 late in the second period.  It was just his second goal in 23 world championship games.   Tomas Plekanec was held off the scoresheet in the Czech Republic’s 6-0 win over Italy.

The World Championships in Helsinki and Finland after Thursday have completed four of seven preliminary round games and members of the Canadiens lead three of their national teams in scoring.

Max Pacioretty shares the tournament scoring lead with Sweden’s Loui Eriksson and Russia’s Evgeni Malkin, each with seven points in four games.  With a goal and six assists Pacioretty has been the playmaker on a line with Paul Stastny and Bobby Ryan.

The only other member of the Canadiens in the tournament is Russia’s Alexei Emelin who predictably has only one assists through the first four games.  He is one of the team leaders on defense at plus-5.

Two other Canadiens played in exhibition games but are not in the tournament.  P.K. Subban hurt his knee in an pre-tournament game against Switzerland.  Petteri Nokelainen was left off Finland’s roster.

Tomas Plekanec leads the Czech Republic with a goal and four assists and Lars Eller is kingpin on the Danish team with three goals and an assist after four games.

In the tournament Sweden, Finland and Russia are the only teams with a 4-0 record.  Canada is 3-0-1 just behind the Finns in the Helsinki division.  Over in the Stockholm division the Czech Republic is third behind the perfect records of Sweden and Russia.  Despite Eller, Denmark is winless with a 0-0-1 record.
