Tomas Kaberle

Canadiens defenseman Tomas Kaberle leaves for Toronto Friday morning after fulfilling a one month contract with his hometown Kladno Knights.     Kaberle’s wife, who manages two Toronto restaurants,  had remained home with their seven month old son.

Kaberle played ten Czech Extraliga games scoring two goals and four assists.  His goals came in his last two games with the Knights.  He played on an all-NHL first unit with defenseman Marek Zidlicky plus forwards Tomas Plekanec, Jaromir Jagr and Jiri Tlusty.

Kaberle told the Kladno newspaper Kladensky Denik, “Although it may not seem so, I think the NHL and NHLPA will come to an agreement soon.. If not and the season is canceled, I won’t stay at home.  I want to play hockey somewhere.”

During the 2004-2005 lockout Kaberle ignored lucrative offers from Russia to play the entire season in Kladno, his hometown.  Kaberle said, It was a different situation, I had no family in America. Now my wife is in business and it’s not easy to leave.”
