Vityaz Chekhov – KHL

Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov was not in the lineup as Vityaz Chekhov edged  Traktor  4-3 in a shootout at Chelyabinsk Monday night.  Markov suffered a rib injury Friday in a game against Yugra and will miss at least the three game road trip to the south eastern Ural Mountains area of Russia.    Former Canadiens Andrei Kostitsyn and Jan Bulis each scored goals for Chelyabinsk who held a 3-0 lead midway through the game.  Kostitsyn also took the first shot in the shootout but failed to score.

At Kazan,  Ak-Bars  beat  Moscow-based Mytishchi Atlant 3-1 Monday. No points for Alexei Emelin, who played 18:51 with one shot on goal.  Andreas Engqvist, who is still on the Canadiens negotiation list, is playing for Mytishchi.  He was held off the scoresheet but has 3 goals and 10 assists in 18 games for Atlant.


……The Vityaz’three game Urals road trip continues 200 kilometres north at Yekatarinburg  (1600 kiloometres and two time zones from Moscow) against Automobilist Sverdlovsk Tuesday.     Ak Bars hosts Yaroslavl Lokomotiv on Wednesday.  Yaroslavl is sponsored by Russian Railways.

……In the Swiss National League Tuesday, Geneva-Servette (Yannick Weber) will play at Lugano and Zug (Raphael Diaz) will play host to Biel.

…..Tomas Plekanec‘s next Kladno Knights Czech Extraliga game will be Friday at Pardubice against the Vitkovice Steelers.  The Moravian city of Pardubice is goaltender Dominek Hašek’s hometown and where he played the first eight years of his professional hockey career..
