Apparent issues  of insurance coverage kept NHLer’s Tomas Plekanec and Marek Zidlicky out of the Czech National team lineup  for their Karjala Cup game against host Finland Friday at Turku Finland.  Plekanec scored a goal in the 3-1 win over Sweden  to open the tournament Wednesday.

Without Plekanec  and Zidlicky  the Czechs were still able to beat Finland  1-0.  Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec recorded the shutout and former NHLer Petr Nedved scored the game’s only goal.

With the win the  Czechs are in position to win their first ever Karjala Cup championship.  They will play Russia in the tournament’s final game Saturday.
