Back on October 26th when he suffered that “rib” injury, Andrei Markov assured us that it was a minor setback and he would be returning to the Vityaz Chekhov lineup in short order.  Tuesday he missed his sixth straight game as Chekhov dropped a 3-2 decision to Dynamo at Moscow.  It’s now been 25 days since the injury.  Nobody, including Markov is commenting.  In the Moscow Dyanamo victory, Niklas Backstrom scored twice. Alexander Ovechkin drew assists on both goals.

In the Czech Extraliga, after a mild slump Tomas Plekanec regained his eye for the goal, scoring twice but Kladno dropped a 4-3 decision to Slavia Prague in a shootout Tuesday.  The game was played in front of 14,175 spectators  at the O2 Arena in Prague.  Plekanec scored two of the three goals for the Knights; Jaromir Jagr assisted on both of them.   In 21 games, Plekanec has 16  goals and 14 assists, one point behind Jagr for the team lead.

Lars Eller was kept off the scoresheet for the first time as JYP-Jyväskylä lost 5-2 at home to HPK Hämeenlinna Tuesday night  in Finland’s SM-Liiga.  Eller had just one shot on goal over 17:30 ice time.  I three games Eller has two goals and an assist.

In the Swiss League Tuesday –  David Desharnais failed to register a point and managed only one shot on goal as Fribourg won 2-1 at Lugano     Geneva recorded a  6-2 road win over Zug.  Raphael Diaz was not in Zug’s lineup.  He has been hit with the flu bug.   Yannick Weber failed to score a point but was plus-3 for the Eagles..

On this side of the Atlantic, Cedrick Desjardins was expected to make his second start in goal for the Hamilton Bulldogs when they play the Ice Caps in St. John’s Newfoundland Tuesday but Robert Mayer got the gametime nod.  There were reports that Louis Leblanc might return to the Bulldogs lineup but he has not yet been cleared to play.  Leblanc suffered a high ankle sprain six weeks ago.    The teams will meet again tomorrow (Wednesday) in St. John’s.
