Tomas Plekanec Celebrates 21st Goal

In the Czech Extraliga – TheKladno Knights came from behind 2-0 to defeat the Pirates 5-2 in Chomutov on Friday night.   Tomas Plekanec scored his 21st goal of his season while linemate Jaromir Jagr had a goal and assist.  The line was responsible for four of the five Kladno goals.  Plekanec was plus-3  and is in third place in league scoring with 21 goals and 25 assists in 29 games.  He has 5 goals and 7 assists his last seven games.

Kladno will move on to play Mountfield at Budějovice on Sunday.

Over in the Swiss National League Friday, Zug edged Lugano 2-1 with Canadiens defenceman Raphael Diaz assisting on the game’s first goal.  In
the eleven games he’s played since the Swiss League took it’s November break, Diaz, the league’s highest scoring defenceman, has four goals and eight assists.  Overall he is at exactly a point a game; 28 games played – 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists).   Zug will travel to Davos for a game Saturday.

In Fribourg Friday, the home team shutout Geneva 2-0.  Neither David Desharnais (Fribourg) nor Yannick Weber (Geneva) registered a point.    Desharnais had four shots on goal while Weber logged two. In his twelve games with Fribourg-Gottéron Desharnais has one goal and seven assists.   In his 29 games with Genève-Servette, Weber has 4 goals and 15 assists while piling up a team-leading 97 shots on goal.

Fribourg will play Ambri-Piotta Saturday at home.   Fribourg meanwhile moves on to play at Lugano Saturday.

Later on Friday, the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs lost to the St. John’s IceCaps at Copps Coliseum.  The game story and stats here.

In the ECHL, theAlaska Aces played the second of a three game homestand against the Stockton California Thunder Friday night.  Scott Gomez returned to the Aces lineup after missing four games with a lower body injury and recorded a goal and assist as Alaska beat Stockton 5-1.  The teams meet again Saturday night.

Colby Armstrong signed a contract with the Utah Grizzlies on December fifth.  He’s practicing with the team which includes his younger brother, but has no plans at this time to play for them.  Utah hosted Las Vegas Friday night.

In the KHL  – Vityaz Chekhov (Andrei Markov)  is idle until next week.  Ak-Bars Kazan (Alexei Emelin) will play Slovan at Bratislava Saturday and on Monday will play against Lev in Prague.

The Finnish SM-liiga is now taking a Christmas break. Lars Eller and JYP Jyväskylä will pick up their schedule again on December 28th when they play home game against the Lahti Pelicans..
