81-Lars Eller – Returning to Montreal

Lars Eller played his final game in a Jyväskylä uniform and although he didn’t score a point he and his teammates shutout SaiPa 3-0.  The game was played in southeastern Finland at Lappeenranta.

With an anticipated end to the lockout, Eller informed JYP management Thurday that he wished to return to Montreal to prepare for whatever is left of the NHL season.   Eller also indicated that, should negotiations break down and the NHL season is ultimately cancelled, he would return to Jyväskylä  for the remainder of their season.  Eller played 16 games for them with 5 goals and 10 assists.  Boston’s Rich Peverley, Eller’s linemate through most of his 16 games in Finland, also played his last JYP game  Saturday.

On Saturday’s Swiss National League schedule,  David Desharnais completed a five point weekend with two assists as Fribourg defeated Ambri-Piotta 7-3.   In 16  games with Fribourg-Gotteron, Desharnais has 16 points (4 goals-12 assists).

Yannick Weber scored his 5th goal in Geneva’s 5-2 home ice win over the Kloten Flyers.  Geneva plays  the Lakers in Rapperswil Sunday.  In 32 games Weber has 5 goals and 22 assists and is second on the team in shots on goal with 106.

Raphael Diaz and his Zug teammates were shutout at home 4-0 by SC Bern.  Diaz remains the highest scoring defenceman in the league with 7 goals and 22 assists in 32 games.

In the Kontinental Hockey League at Kazan, Alexei Emelin returned to the Ak-Bars lineup after missing two games with an undisclosed problem.  He assisted on the game’s first goal as Kazan defeated Salavat Yulaev 9-3 at  home.

Andrei Markov and Chekhov will play at Yaroslavl Sunday.

And in the Czech Republic, Tomas Plekanec is expected to miss his third straight game as Kladno plays in Pilsen Sunday.  Plekanec suffered some kind of rib injury on December 28th.

And finally, in the East Coast Hockey League the Alaska Aces were edged 2-1 at Ontario California Reign following a nine-round shootout.  For the fourth time in the last five games (8th in the last 10) Scott Gomez was not in the Alaska lineup.  Gomez played and scored a goal Friday night in a win at Stockton California. Gomez has been bothered by some kind of nagging lower body injury which has all of the ingredients of a groin problem.  His absence forced Alaska to go with 15 skaters, one below the maximum.
