Canadiens vs. Florida

Notes –

….. Florida has lost three of their last four games and eight of the eleven games they played since they started the season with a win.

…..Montreal has scored first in three of its last four contests,but has one victory to show for it.

….Last season Florida was 4-0 against the Canadiens, the first time they swept a season series against Montreal.  Two of the games were decided by a single goal and the last game, March 27th, was decided in a shootout.

……Before they swept all four games last season the Panthers had lost 11 of 14 to the Habs

…..….Erik Cole had a ten game point streak against the Panthers ended  January 22nd.  Still has he has seven goals and  five assists in his last eleven games against them..  In four games vs. the Panthers last season  he had three goals and an assist in four games.

….Last season Carey Price lost his two starts against  Florida despite a  1.94GAA.  One of the losses came in a shootout.  Peter Budaj was in goal for the other two losses.  Lifetime Price is 4-4-1 versus Florida.  2-1-1 with a 1.23 GAA in his last four against them. Panthers.

……Price has a 3.59 goals-against average in losing two of his last three starts.

….. Blowing leads.  The Canadiens were ahead 1-0 after 40 minutes against Boston on Feb. 6 and gave up two quick third period goals to lose 2-1.   The following night in Buffalo the Canadies led 4-2 in the third.  Buffalo tied the game with 1.9 seconds left and wo the game in the shootout.  Next, they lost to Toronto 6-0 and followed that with the blown 3-0 lead  and shootout win in Tampa Tuesday.

……When leading after two periods last season, the Canadiens had the NHL’s worst winning percentage.  This season they have been outscored 14-6 in the third period and blown third period leads three of their last four games. They lost two of those games.

….The Canadiens have outscored their opponents 27-18 through the first two periods of games this season.

….The Panthers 3.83 goals against per game is the worst in the NHL.

…..Jose Theodore will start for the Panthers.   Since they traded him in 2006,  Theodore is 2-2-1 with a 4.62 goals against average in six games against Montreal.

….. The Panthers are allowing 30 shots against per game, which ranks 23rd in the NHL.

….. Florida’s team goals-against average is 3.83, by far the worst in the NHL.   The Islanders rank 29th at 3.58. The four worst defensive records in the NHL are from Eastern Conference teams.  Just ahead of the Islanders are Washington (28th  –  3.54) and Buffalo 27th (3.43)

……Florida’s penalty kill is struggling along at 72.9 percent, which was 27th in the League. The Panthers allowed the Capitals power play to go 3-for-5 in the home and home series the past week. Tthey’ve allowed a power-play goal against in four straight games.

Season Series : The Canadiens took the first game of the season series 4-1 at Bell Centre in Montreal on Jan. 22. Andrei Markov scored twice and Canadiens rookie Alex Galchenyuk scored his first career goal in the game, while Tomas Kopeckyreplied for the Panthers.

Last Time Out – The Canadiens gave up three goals in the final six minutes before beating Tampa 4-3 in a shootout.  Florida held a two-goal third-period advantage Tuesday before allowing three unanswered in a 6-5 overtime loss to Washington.  The Panthers had lost the first game of the home-and-home set 5-0 last Saturday.

Subban has six points in the six games he’s played this season.  Tomas Plekanec has two goals and two assists in his last four games. …Florida –    Jonathan Huberdeau  has four goals and an assist in his last six games.Tomas Fleischmann has two goals and four assists in his last six games.

Last Season Between the Canadiens and Panthers

2011-2012 Season Series – @Bell Centre Oct. 24, 2011 – Florida-2 Canadiens-1.  Jacob Markstrom made 40 saves for his first NHL win.  Scottie Upshall scored game winner in third.  First time in Canadiens history the Canadiens failed to win at least one of their first five games.   @Sunrise Dec.21 – Florida-3 Canadiens-2.  An empty net goal became game winner.  Tomas Fleischman scored his second goal with 41 seconds remaining.  With the net still empty Erik Cole scored seven seconds later.  Travis Moen also scored for Canadiens.  @Sunrise Feb. 27 – Florida-4  Canadiens-2.   Canadiens had a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes on goals by Desharnais and Subban.  Stephen Weiss had two goals and an assist.  Sean Bergenheim with a goal and two assists. @ Bell Centre March 27 – Florida-3 Canadiens-2 (shootout)  Wojtek Wolski scored in regulation and was the lone scorer in the shootout.  Erik Cole with his career high 31st goal.  Louis Leblanc also scored of the Canadiens.  Subban logs 28:05 icetime.  Pacioretty had nine shots on goal.   It was the 5th time in the previous eight games the Canadiens forced a game into overtime.  They lost four of the games.  The win put the Panthers on track for their first playoff berth since 2000.
