97 – Brady Vail – Windsor Spitfires

The Windsor Spitfires OHL season came to an end Sunday without a post season berth and the Canadiens, through their Hamilton Bulldogs affiliate immediately signed centre Brady Vail to an amateur tryout contract.

Vail was a 2012 fourth round draft pick.  In junior hockey, Vail has a reputation as a two-way centre with 20 goals and 55 points in 68 games this season.  Because of  team injuries, Vail played on the Spitfires defence for ten games late in the season.

Vail has an interesting background.  He grew up in Palm City, Florida.   His father is a real estate developer and his mother is a golf pro.  His early hockey was of the in-line variety until he was nine.  He moved to Michigan with his mother and younger sister and spent three years in the Compuware midget organization. At 15 he played with WaterlooIowa in the US Development programme before joining Windsor three years ago.

The tryout contract gives the Canadiens an opportunity to determine whether they want to sign him to a professional contract.
