Game Notes –
….The Canadiens have 21 wins in 33 games this season. Last year they won their 22nd in their 55th game.
….The Rangers are 3-5-1 their last nine games and have only ten goals their last eight games. They go into the game tied with the Islanders for the last Eastern Conference playoff berth.
….The Habs are 9-0-1 their last ten games at home against the Rangers outscoring them 42-18. That includes seven straight wins, four of them shutouts. In that stretch they were outscored 27-7. They have allowed New York one goal or less in the last four.
…..The Rangers last win at the Bell Centre was just over 4 years ago, March 17, 2009, a 4-3 shootout victory.
….In the two meetings this season the Canadiens have outscored the Rangers 6-1. Alex Galchenyuk has 2 goals and an assist.
….Max Pacioretty has one goal in his last eleven games. Over the stretch 45 of his 69 shooting attempts were on the net. This is his second major scoring slump of the season. It took 15 games for him to score his first of the year.
…..It wasn’t until the March 9th game in Tampa Bay that Michel Therrien made Michael Ryder a regular fixture on the line with Plekanec and Gionta. In their next eight games together (Ryder missed a game) the line posted ten goals and 15 assists and failed to score a goal only twice. Over the last eight games Ryder has 6 goals and 3 assists; Plekanec- 1 goal,8 assists and Gionta 3 goals and 4 assists.
….Michael Ryder has 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in 13 games with the Canadiens. Including his final six games with Dallas when he scored 2 goals and 7 assists, Ryder has 8 goals and 14 assists 22 points in his last 19 games. (In 12 games at Dallas Erik Cole has 2 goals and 0 assists).
….Brandon Prust returns to the Canadiens lineup after missing eight games with a separated shoulder. In his absence, the Canadiens were 5-2-1.
….Carey Price has blanked the Rangers in his last three home starts; a total of 192:45. He was forced to make only 17 saves in the 3-0 win February 23rd.
…Martin Biron will be making his first start since a 4-1 March 10th in Washington. It will be his 30th career appearance against the Canadiens. In his last two starts against the Canadiens the Rangers have offered zero offensive support. He was on the losing side of a 3-0 verdict on February 23rd. Prior to that, on Nov. 19, 2011 the Canadiens were 4-0 winners.
….Henrik Lundqvist has lost four straight at the Bell Centre. He is 4-5-2 his last 11 in Montreal with a 3.87GAA and an .875save%. He says the energy at the Bell Centre gets him “too excited to play.”
….Despite the presence of Rick Nash, Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik have the league’s 2nd worst offence averaging 2.27 goals per game. (only Columbus has scored fewer)
….Gaborik, who is earning 7.5 million dollars a season, was been demoted to the Rangers fourth line with Taylor Pyatt and Kris Newbury in practice Friday at Carlton University in Ottawa, raising speculation he’ll either play there against the Canadiens or be a pressbox resident. Gaborik has 2 goals over his last 20 games.
….Mats Zuccarello will play his first game for the Rangers. He is the last Ranger to score on Carey Price at the Bell Centre. His goal came in the third period of a 3-2 Rangers loss on Jan. 15, 2011. The Norwegian-born Zuccarello was re-signed after playing this season for Paul Maurice at Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL. He became available when Metallurg was eliminated from the playoffs and Zuccarello’s two year contract with them was terminated.
….The Rangers power play has produced two goals in it’s last 21 opportunities.

The Canadiens ice the puck 16 times. Tortorella calls it “one of the worst games I’ve ever been involved in. Both teams. But they were better than we were.” @Bell Centre Feb 23rd Canadiens-3 NY Rangers-0. Price stops all 17 shots. Martin Biron gives up 3 on 18 shots. Cole, Galchenyuk and Eller scored the goals, all in the second period. Galchenyuk also had an assist. Rangers outshot the Canadiens 4-3 in the third period.
