On December 5th the Canadiens decided to send Swiss-born minor league left winger Alain Berger from Hamilton to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Rather than report to Wheeling, Berger signed a two year contract with SC Bern of the Swiss National League.
Bern is currently locked in a semi-final playoff series against Fribourg-Gotteron. At the end of the third period of game one, with Bern leading 4-1, Berger and Fribourg’s Sebastien Schilt decided to fight. As you watch this strange-looking encounter remember that players are given a game misconduct for fighting, but “fighting” under international rules means dropping the gloves. At the end of this, Berger was given a two minute roughing minor and Schilt, was given the game misconduct after he went bare-knuckled at the end of the affair.
All of that said…..here it is.
