grand rapidsThe Grand Rapids Griffins scored four goals on four shots over a span of 1:13 midway through the second period and went on to a 6-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night.

The Bulldogs were trailing 2-0 but outshooting the Griffins 25-12 when the collapse began.  Starting goaltender Robert Mayer was in goal for the first three goals of the outburst.  He was replaced by Dustin Tokarski, who let in a goal on the first shot he faced.

Calle Jarnkrok scored twice for the defending Calder Cup champion Griffins.  The others were scored by Andrej Nestrasil, Cory Emmerton and Teemu Pulkkinen got the others.

Rookie Sven Andrighetto scored the only Hamilton goal on a power play in the final minute.

Grand Rapids is a Detroit Red Wings affiliate.  They have now won seven straight games and are 7-0-2 on the road to start their season.

Notes –

…..Louis Leblanc’s four game point streak came to an end with the shutout loss.  In his previous four games Leblanc had five goals and three assists after failing to register a point in his season’s first four games.

….The Swiss born rookie Sven Andrighetto now leads the Bulldogs in  points with 9 and  and shares the team lead in goals with Leblanc at 5. He is also the team leader at plus-6.

….Defenseman Greg Pateryn, returned to the Bulldogs earlier in the day, was paired with Jarred Tinordi in the game.  He drew an assist on the Bulldogs only goal.

….Hard shooting Swedish rookie defenseman Magnus Nygren led the Bulldogs with five shots on goal bringing his team-leading total to 36.    Nygren has eight points in the Bulldogs’ 12 games.  Seven of those points have come on the Bulldogs power play.

…Not in the lineup were D-Darren Dietz who missed his eighth straight game with a wrist injury and D-Nathan McIver, who is considered day-to-day with a lower body injury.  The healthy scratches were RW-Steve Quailer, C-Ben Duffy and  D-Morgan Ellis who was forced out with the return of Pateryn.

….The Bulldogs are now 5-4-3 to start their season.  This was their second loss in a row  after taking a defeat in Rochester Wednesday.  They still share the lead in the AHL North Division with Toronto and Rochester at 13 points but, both the Marlies and Americans have two games in hand.

….They host the Utica Comets Sunday at 3.00 pm.  Utica is a Vancouver Canucks affiliate.
