Rochester forward Luke Adam scored two third period unanswered goals, the second into an empty net and the Americans went on to a 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Wednesday morning at Copps Coliseum. It ws the Bulldogs fifth straight defeat.
Rochester is the AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres.
The game, which started at 10:00 AM. was played in front of an announced crowd of 12,135, most of them kids taking part in the Bulldogs’s annual School Day promotion.
The Bulldogs leading scorer, rookie Sven Andrighetto accounted for the only Hamilton goal late in the first period. Linemates Mike Blunden and Martin St. Pierre drew the assists. (Game Summary and Team Scoring Statistics Below)
Andrighetto has now scored goals in four straight games and leads the Bulldogs in goals with seven and points with 11. The Canadiens took Andrighetto as an overage junior in the third round of the 2013 draft after a 31 goal season with Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL. At 5’9″, his size has been considered the drawback.
…..The School Day crowd of 12,185 was biggest for a Copps Coliseum game since June 7, 2007, which was the night they clinched their Calder Cup championship. In the regular season it was the largest crowd since April 1, 2005.
…..With their fifth straight loss, the Bulldogs season record fell to 5-6-3. With 13 points they are tied with Toronto for second place in the AHL North Division, three points behind Rochester.
….Andrighetto‘s seven goals ranks him third among AHL rookie scorers, one behind Hartford’s Danny Kristo. Syracuse forward Nikita Kucherov leads all rookies and the league with 12 goals in 13 games.
