In a battle of road-weary hockey teams, the Hamilton Bulldogs came out on the front end of a 3-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage Sunday afternoon at the First Ontario Centre in Hamilton. The Bulldogs were playing their third game in 44 hours, the first two of which were in Monreal and Rochester, while San Antonio was in it’s 9th game of a ten game road trip.
Bulldogs captain Martin St. Pierre led the way with two goals. The other Hamilton goal went to Mike Blunden. Defenseman Greg Pateryn assisted on two of the three Hamilton goals. Clinton Howden scored for the Rampage who never had the lead in the game.
The victory ended a four game Hanilton losing streak and a five game losing streak at home.
Dustin Tokarski was in goal for Hamilton. Final shots on goal were 33-31 in favour of San Antonio.
Notes –
….Martin St. Pierre, who is the Bulldogs point producer, ended an eleven game goal scoring drought with his first goal of the game.
…..Along with his two assists, Greg Pateryn led the Bulldogs with four shots on goal.
…..Jarred Tinordi was a last minute healthy scratch for the game, indicating he had been recalled by the Canadiens.
…..Also not in the lineup was D-Darren Dietz who suffered a long term injury at the Bell Centre Friday night. Healthy scratches were C-Jordan Owens and C-Robert Czarnik.
…..This long Rampage road trip was prompted by the annual three week occupation of their arena by the San Antonio Rodeo. In the first nine games of the road trip they are 6-2-1.
…..San Antonio beat the Bulldogs 4-1 on Monday in Hamilton the first of four meetings between the teams. The final two will be in San Antonio.
…..The Bulldogs next game will be Friday night when they take on the Lake Erie Monsters at First Ontario Centre followed by a game against the Marlies in Toronto Saturday.
