Game Notes 

..The Canadiens won the last Bell Centre meeting between the clubs, 7-2 Jan. 25, 2012. David Desharnais and Erik Cole had three points each.

..Detroit has won three of the last four meetings and eight of the last 12.

..This is the first of seven games in eleven days for the Canadiens including a four game six day road trip through California and Arizona. Twice they will play back to back games including Detroit followed by Pittsburgh this week.

..Detroit trails the Canadiens by six points in the Atlantic Division with 24 games remaining in both team’s schedules.

… Montreal rebounded from a late January four-game losing streak to go 5-1-1 in the last seven games before the Olympic break

…The Red Wings went 3-1-1 in their last five before the break. 

……There were six members of the Detroit Red Wings on the Swedish Olympic Team Roster.

…The Red Wings have made the playoffs 22 consecutive seasons. They currently hold the final wild card berth in the Eastern Conference by one point over Columbus, Ottawa and Washington with Carolina and New Jersey two back

..Peter Budaj had one start during the Canadiens recent 5-1-1 streak, a 4-1 win at Boston Jan. 30th. It stopped a personal three game losing streak in which the Canadiens managed to score only three goals.  Over those three games he had a 1.05GAA

.The last time Budaj faced Detroit was January 10, 2011, a 5-4 Colorado win at Denver. He stopped 26 of 30 shots.  ….Overall Budaj has appeared in 11 games against Detroit, all of them while with Colorado. His record is 5-4-2 with a 3.11GAA.

.Budaj will make only his second Bell Centre start of the season. In the other start he was a 2-1 loser against Florida December 15th. He also came on in relief of Carey Price in two home games against Los Angeles December 10th and Washington January 25th.  In those three home appearances he has allowed 5 goals for a 2.44GAA and an ,.893 save percentage.

..In two-plus seasons with the Canadiens, 13 of Budaj‘s 34 appearances have been at the Bell Centre. He came on in relief a Carey Price in three of them. His record in Montreal is 6-3-1 with a 1.57GAA with a .931GAA

..Jimmy Howard has won two of three career starts against the Canadiens.

..The Red Wings rank third in the league (behind Pittsburgh and Anaheim) in man games lost due to injury with 248.  …….Henrik Zetterberg is out for the rest of the regular season following back surgery.  He also missed 11 games with herniated disc.  Despite that he leads with the winers with 16 goals and 32 assists. 

..Pavel Datsyuk has a left knee problem.  He missed 14 of Detroit’s final 16 games before the Olympic break, but did play all five games with Russia finishing with six points in five games.

.Johan Franzen, who has missed 22 of the last 23 games, has been cleared to return. He had 17 points over his last 17 games before suffering a concussion on Dec. 15.

.Carey Price  is 2-3-1 with a 2.63 GAA in six career starts against Detroit.

.Price is 4-1-1 with a 1.16 GAA in his last six starts.
