Game Notes

..The Canadiens enter the game in second place in the Atlantic Division, 3 points ahead of Tampa with two to play. If the Canadiens win and Tampa loses in regulation time at home against Philadelphia Thursday, the Canadiens would clinch second place in the Division and third in the Eastern Conference.

.The Islanders have won six of the last eleven against the Canadiens but have lost both games this season by a combined score of 5-2.  The Islanders have won 3 of the last 5 at the Bell Centre.

.New York is 5-2-2 their last nine and 7-4-2 their last 13 games.

.The Islanders concluded their home schedule with a 4-1 loss to Ottawa Tuesday to finish 13-19-9 at Nassau Coliseum . They are the only NHL team to finish the last four home seasons under .500. On the road they are 18-18-2.

.The Islanders will play one more season at the Nassau Coliseum before moving to Brooklyn.

.Carey Price has a 1.32 goals against average in his last three games against the Islanders and in his 12 career starts against them is 7-2-3.

.Evgeni Nabokov is 2-0-2 with a 1.68GAA over his last four starts.

.. During the Canadiens 13 game (10-2-1) stretch run the Desharnais line has scored 19 goals (Pacioretty 9 goals, 7 assists plus-10 / Vanek 6 goals,8 assists  plus-8 / Desharnais 4 goals 10 assists  plus13)

….On the negative side – over the last 13 games P.K. Subban has been on the ice for 19 goals scored against the Canadiens and only 14-For.  Even-strength over that stretch he is minus-7.  

…..In 55 games with the Florida Panthers Mike Weaver was minus-9.  In 15 games with the Canadiens he is plus-9.

.The Canadiens didn’t get a power play opportunity in Chicago so they continue to be stuck on 0-for-the-last-17.

.Over the last 13 games during which the Canadiens are 10-2-1 the power play has 6 goals in 47 chances (12.7%). At 10.3% the Florida Panthers have the worst season power play in the league.  The 29th ranked team, Carolina is at 14.2%.

.Ryan Strome was named to the AHL All-rookie team with 13 goals and 49 points in 37 games at Bridgeport before his December callup. A fifth round pick in the 2011 draft he made his NHL debut Dec. 14th against the Canadiens coming off back-to-back AHL Player of the Week awards.  Strome was he last of the top ten picks in the 2011 draft, headed by Nugent-Hopkins and Landeskog to reach the NHL.

.On Tuesday Brett Gallant became the 13th rookie to play for the Islanders this season. In 3 ½ seasons with Bridgeport he set the team record with 66 fighting majors.

Due to injuries the Islanders have been forced to dress at least nine rookies each of their last nine games.

The Islanders are missing seven regulars – John Taveras (torn MCL); Michael Grabner (concussion); Eric Boulton (broken hand); Brian Strait (broken hand) Kyle Okposo (lower body); Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion symptoms) Calvin de Haan (lower body).

Defenceman Thomas Hickey is the only member of the Islanders to play in all 79 games this season.

P.K. Subban is the only member of the Canadiens to play in every game after Andrei Markov was left home for Wednesday’s Chicago game.

….The Islanders have given up 262 goals this season.  Only Edmonton has given up more goals per game on average.  By comparison, the Canadiens have given up 202.
