lake erieThe Hamilton Bulldogs edged the Lake Erie Monsters 2-1 Friday night in their final road game of the 2013-2014 season. Nick Sorkin tipped home a Sven Andrighetto shot for what proved to be the winning goal in the third period. Joonas Nattinen scored the other Hamilton goal. Andrew Agozzino scored for Lake Erie, an affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.

The goal for Sorkin was his first as a professional after joining the Bulldogs following a college career with the University of New Hampshire.

Neither team will be advancing to the AHL playoffs after the regular season ends this season.

Robert Mayer was in goal for the Bulldogs. Final shots on goal were 36-31 in Hamilton’s favour.

The Bulldogs finish their 10-game season series against Lake Erie with a 6-3-1 record.

….The Bulldogs will finish their season Saturday night in Hamilton against the Syracuse Crunch. Syracuse is a Tampa Bay Lightning affiliate.

…..Hamilton has points in three straight games and seven of their last eight. They are 5-3-3 over their last eleven outings. A win in their final game Saturday night would give them a .500 season record.

….There were six Hamilton healthy scratches for the game; LW-Justin Courtnall; RW Patrick Holland; RW-Stefan Fournier; C-Robert Czarnik: D-Jonathan Narbonne; D-Morgan Ellis and G-Devan Dubnyk.

….The Hamilton injury list includes D-Darren Dietz (torn hamstring) and C-Brady Vail (ankle) who are out for the remainder of the season.

…..Rookie forward Connor Crisp who had scored goals two of his last three games suffered what appeared to be an arm or shoulder injury in the first period, did not return.

….Canadiens assistant general manager Larry Carriere was in Cleveland for the game. The Canadiens normally re-call a number of Bulldogs as soon as their season ends. Last April eight were called up.

….Interesting note on the two-year Canadiens contract signed by Dustin Tokarski this week. The first year of the deal will be a two-way AHL/NHL contract. The second year will be a full NHL contract. Tokarski will be the Bulldogs starter in their season finale Saturday night at FirstOntario Centre.
