Game Notes –

.The Refereeing team will be Dan O’Halloran and Wes McCauley. They have worked together only in the playoffs third round. They officiated the Rangers 3-1 win in Game Two in which the Canadiens were shorthanded 8 times; the Rangers 3.

.In this year’s playoffs O’Halloran has called 13.9% more penalties on road teams, more than any official left in the playoffs.

Defenseman John Moore starts his two game suspension for the head shot on Dale Weise in Game Five. His replacement will be Raphael Diaz.

Diaz had 11 assists in 46 games with the Canadiens before being traded to Vancouver for Weise. He played in two games in the Pittsburgh series averaging 18:07 with six shots, no points and a minus-1 rating.

…Since joining the team at the trade deadline, Diaz is second in power play time at $:15 per game.

Weise is out with a “body injury” not a concussion, according to Michel Therrien. He is expected to be replaced by Brandon Prust who is coming off a two game suspension of his own.

Since he joined the Canadiens, with Weise in the lineup the team is 22-7-4. Without him 5-4-2.

Rene Bourque is the first Canadiens to record a hat trick in an elimination game since Rocket Richard in 1945. He is now tied for second place with Jonathan Toews and Jeff Carter for playoff goals with 8. Marian Gaborik leads with 11.

Brian Gionta has ten points in 11 elimination games and his teams(New Jersey & Montreal) are 9-2.

According to TiqIQ, on the secondary market Madison Square Garden ticket price for Game Six is US$965.74 average, an increase of 36.4%% from Games 3 & 4. Cheapest ticket is $476.

…The Canadiens have rallied back from 1-3 deficits twice in the last ten years. 2010 they fell behind Washington in the opening round of the playoffs. They also came back to beat Boston in 2004.

…The only current member of the Canadiens that was part of the 2004 comeback is Francis Bouillon. Seven members of the current Canadiens were part of the 2010 Canadiens team.

…The Rangers are looking to clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in twenty years; a year (1994) in which they won their last Stanley Cup and their only one in the last seventy years.

.This will be the Rangers 20th game of the playoffs. Since all series went back to best of 7 format in 1987, not eventual Stanley Cup champion has played more than 18 through the first three rounds. Thanks to their 4 game Tampa sweep, this will be the Canadiens 17th game.

The Canadiens last appearance in the Cup final was the year before (1993). They also won the Cup.

The Rangers have killed off 38 of the last 46 penalties over the last 13 games. (82.6%)

…Against the Canadiens they have killed 19 of 21 penalties in five games (90.4%).

…The Canadiens 2 for 21 PP performance follows an 8-for-23 power play record against Boston. However, their two PPG’s have come in the last two games.

.After going six games without a point, P.K. Subban has two points (1 goal, 1 assist) his last two games, both coming on the Canadiens power play.  

Subban has played more than half of each of the last two games (33:16 in game 4; 30:25 in game 5), .

...Subban leads the playoffs with 11 minor penalties. He also leads the playoffs in power play points with 9 and is tied with Jeff Carter in power play goals (4) and tied defenseman points with Drew Doughty (14)…..Tomas Plekanec has 2 goals, 2 assists and is minus-6 over his last 13 playoff games.  He continues to hold the worst plus/minus record in this years playoffs (Minus-7)

…In the four games against the Rangers Tomas Vanek has a total of six shots on goal, has stwo assist and is minus-4.

...Dustin Tokarski will be making his fifth playoff start. His Canadiens playoff record is now 2-2 with a 2.96 GAA and a .902 save percentage (stopped 111 of 123 shots)

Carey Price was on the ice with his teammates for the fourth straight day, the third straight day in full equipment. He is not expected to be available for this series.

…Bouncing back from the last four games in which Henrik Lundqvist has given up four goals, he has yielded one in his next start with a combined .967 save percentage.

…In this playoff season, the Canadiens are 10-1 when they score three or more.

…The Rangers are attempting to become the first team to beat the Canadiens in a playoff series seven times in a row. Four teams have managed it six times.

The NHLPA announced that the appeal of Dan Carcillo’s 10 game ‘abuse of officials’ suspension will be heard by commissioner Gary Bettman on Friday morning.  it is improbable that any decision will lead to his return in this series. 

We’re not there yet, but Henrik Lundqvist is 5-1 with a 1.00GAA in his past 12 games when facing elimination.  In six career Game 7 appearances, his 5-1 with a 1.00 GAA and a .967 save% and a shutout.   .

Alexei Emelin is a gametime decision. If he doesn’t play the Canadiens lineup will look like this.
