The Canadiens coaching staff has to decide whether Jiri Sekac and/or Sven Andrighetto are ready to assume the defensive responsibilities required in the NHL.  They have put the two rookie’s feet-to-the-fire right away in training camp by sending them out against the veteran Desharnais/Pacioretty/Parenteau line.  So far, not-so-good.

Parenteau scored his third goal in three scrimmage games, Desharnais added his secondand the Red Team beat the Whites 5-2 Sunday in Brossard.

Also scoring for the winners were Rene Bourque, Jake Dowell and Nick Sorkin.  Gabriel Dumont scored both goals for the losers.

Carey Price and rookie Mike Condon shared goaltending for the Reds; Price allowing 1 goal on eight shots and Condon, a goal on six.   Peter Budaj and Dustin Tokarski split the game in goal for the Whites.  Budaj allowed 3 on 12 shots, Tokarski 2 on 4.

The Final Red/White Intrasquad game will be played at the Bell Centre Monday night.  The first exhibition game will be Tuesday against Boston, also at the Bell Centre.  Gametime 7.35pm.


Notes:   …..Lars Eller took a therapy day to treat a minor injury.  Junior grad Charles Hudon took his place between Rene Bourque and Jacob de la Rose.  ….A “Kid Line” made up of Dumont, Michael Bournival and Jeremy Gregoire was the most productive for the Whites.  Gregoire will return to Baie Comeau to complete his junior career this season….Tim Bozon, Patrick Holland and first round draft pick Nikita Scherbak were called up from the “C” Group and formed a line for the White team.  ……Forward Jake Dowell played with Minnesota and their Iowa farm team last year.  He is signed to an AHL/Hamilton one-year contract.  …..6’3” forward Nick Sorkin played with the University of New Hampshire last season. He is in camp on a tryout contract.
