Winnipeg vs. Canadiens

Bell Centre – Nov. 11, 20147:35pm

Stuff You Should Know

….Tuesday the Canadiens traded left wing Travis Moen to the Dallas Stars in return for 40 year old defenseman Sergei Gonchar.

….Gonchar played for Michel Therrien for parts of four seasons in Pittsburgh.  He is the first Russian born defenseman to record 200 goals and 500 assists (currently 219g-579a – 798 pts. in 1256 games – 102 power play goals).  This will be his 6th NHL team.

….Drayson Bowman will take Moen’s spot in the lineup alongside Manny Malhotra and Dale Weise.  Bowman was a Malhotra linemate in Carolina last season.

….The Canadiens recalled Bowman for the second time in three days Monday.  Bowman, who played with Carolina last season, has 2 goals, 4 assists in 11 Hamilton games.  Most recently he had been playing on a Bulldogs line with T.J. Hensick and rookie Charles Hudon.

….In terms of goal differential, both the Canadiens and Jets seem to be doing it with mirrors. The Canadiens are  minus 5 –  the Jets’ minus 2.

….Since the team moved from Atlanta the Canadiens are 7-2-1 vs. the Jets outscoring them 31-16.

….This is the third game of an 8 of 10 game home stretch for the Canadiens.

….Prior to their 4-1 win over Minnesota the  Canadiens had gone six straight games without a win in regulation or overtime.

….In his last seven games Tomas Plekanec has one assist and only 17 shots on goal after scoring 4 goals, 4 assists through his first eight games.

….Carey Price was 1-1-0 with a 1.01 GAA and a .972 save% vs. Winnipeg last season.

….Price has a .910 save percentage in his last 5 starts, including 3 games in which he allowed at least 3 goals.

….In ten career starts against Winnipeg Price is 8-2-0 in ten career starts.   Career vs. Atlanta/Winnipeg, 11-4-3 with a 2.24GAA.

….Ondrej Pavelec is 1-8-0 his last nine starts against the Canadiens with a 3.44 GAA.

….Pavelec has lost his last five starts in Montreal with a 4.02 GAA.  When the Jets beat the Canadiens 2-1 at the Bell Centre  February 2nd, Al Montoya was in goal.

….Pavelec has started seven of the eight games in Winnipeg’s current streak posting a 1.36GAA and .952 save percentage and a shutout.

….At 14, Pavelec is tied with New Jersey’s Cory Schneider for the league lead in starts.

….This will be the 500th career game for Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom.(258 points in 499 games).  P.K. Subban will play in his 300th.

….The Jets Bryan Little will be the only player in the game with more than ten points.  He has 11.  Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec lead the Canadiens with ten each.

….The Canadiens are 7-0-1 in one goal games this season.  They have yet to hold a lead at the end of the first period in any of their 15 games.

….This is the second game of a five game road trip for the Jets.  They are in a stretch of nine of eleven on the road and are already 5-2-1 away from home this season.

….The game Saturday was Winnipeg’s 9th in 16 days.  They will play 15 games in 28 days in November.

….Winnipeg’s shootout win Saturday in Ottawa extended the team’s point streak to eight games (6-0-2), their longest since the team relocated from Atlanta in 2011.  The overall Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise record is nine games (6-0-3) set in 2005-’06 under coach Bob Hartley in Atlanta.

….During their eight game streak they have outscored their opposition 14-10.  Five of the eight games were on the road.

…. Winnipeg  is averaging 1.87 goals to rank 28th in the NHL

….Don’t look for a lot of action on the power play.  Winnipeg’s PP ranks 26th in the league, the Canadiens 28th.
