Vancouver vs. Canadiens

Bell Centre – Dec. 9, 2014 – 7:35pm

Things to Consider –

.Monday Nathan Beaulieu was recalled by the Canadiens for the ninth time in the 1 1/2 seasons.  (Second time this season; Seven times last year)

….After being held off the scoresheet Friday in the first of his three game Hamilton conditioning stint, Michael Bournival scored 2 goals and 2 assists in the games Saturday and Sunday.

….The Canadiens are 1-5-1 over their last seven games scoring only 13 goals.  In four of the seven games they were held to one goal or fewer.

….In a nine day period starting November 27th the Canadiens slipped from first overall in the league and the Eastern Conference to eleventh place – first to fifth in the East.

.The Canadiens are 4-0-1 the last five home games against Vancouver and 6-0-2 the last eight overall meetings.   The two losses were a shootout defeat Dec. 8 2011 at the Bell Centre (the Canucks last win in Montreal) and in overtime on Oct. 30th in Vancouver.

.The Canadiens are opening a five game home stand.

.The Canucks are 3-2-1 in this the final game of a seven game road trip. They have lost back to back games for only the second time this season.

.In nine career games against Vancouver Carey Price is 5-1-2 with a 2.34GAA and a .933save%.

.Price played in each of the four games on the Habs recent road trip with a 3.05GAA.

.Dating back to the Nov. 8th win over Minnesota, at home, Price is 5-1-0 with a 1.67GAA.

.Ryan Miller is 1-2-0 with a 4.58GAA his last three starts. Prior to that he recorded back to back shutouts against New Jersey and Columbus.

.Miller is 3-3-0 in his last six starts against the Canadiens (Buffalo and Vancouver). At the Bell Centre over his last five starts he has posted a 1.50GAA average.  Over his career vs. Montreal he is 26-11-6 with a 2.34 GAA and .922save%.

.Alex Galchenyuk will start his second game at centre this season. The last time (vs. Calgary Nov.2) the experiment lasted five first period shifts (with Bourque & Gallagher) before he was returned to left wing.

.Max Pacioretty has failed to record a point the last three games.

.Versus Vancouver, Pacioretty has five goals in his three games and has eight points on a five game streak against them.

….Slumping down the middle  – Tomas Plekanec 1 goal last ten games.  David Desharnais one goal in 22 games.   Lars Eller injured.  Manny Malhotra no points this season (1 goal 0 assists last 45 games)

.The Habs fourth line has been on the ice for only two of the team’s goals this season – one each by Brandon Prust and Dale Weise. All of the rest of their points have been scored when Prust and Weise were on other lines.

.In ten career games against the Canadiens the Sedin Twins have combined for two goals and five assists.

.Vancouver’s third line centre Brad Richardson has four goals and four assists his last six games.

.In the fifth round of the 2010 draft the Canucks drafted Czech defenseman Adam Polasek. Two picks later the Canadiens took Vancouver Giants junior star Brendan Gallagher. After stints in the AHL and ECHL, Polasek is playing in the Czech Extraliga.

.Only Pittsburgh and Winnipeg have been assessed more minor penalties than the Canadiens 119.   P.K. Subban ranks 4th in the NHL with 16. (Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin and Steve Downie share the lead with 19)

.For the first time in two seasons the Canadiens have slipped out of the top ten in penalty killing statistics – now 11th at 83.8%.
