MCCARRON HABS IILess than 24-hours after he had the biggest night of his junior career, the London Knights traded centre Michael McCarron to the Oshawa Generals.

After McCarron recorded three goals and three assists in an 11-4 win at Sarnia New Year’s Eve, McCarron was sent to Oshawa along with defenseman Dakota Mermis in return for a couple of veteran juniors plus four draft choices.

Motivation for the deal was a belief in London that the Knights were not capable of a playoff run while the Generals are considered a top contender for the OHL championship and a berth in the Memorial Cup.  McCarron is projected to play on the Generals’ first line with New York Islanders 2014 first round draft pick Michael Dal Colle who was taken 5th overall.

McCarron has 21 goals and 40 points in 25 games this season.  McCarron was drafted by the Canadiens 25th in the first round of the 2013 Entry Draft.

Goaltender Zach Fucale, also a 2013 draft choice (2nd round 36th overall) was traded to the Quebec Remparts by the Halifax Mooseheads December 19th.  A current member of Team Canada at the World Junior Championship, Fucale has yet to join his new team.

After three straight Memorial Cup appearances, the Knights have become “sellers”, but they say they have no inclination to move their top scorer Max Domi who is also currently playing for Team Canada.
