Ahead of the Game

….There will be no changes in the Canadiens lineup.  Beaulieu in.  Pateryn out.

….Ryan Callahan underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday night. In twelve playoff games he had no goals, three assists and was plus-7. In the series he leads Tampa with 42 hits, has nine blocked shots and has not been on the ice for a goal-against. (In 77 regular season games, 24g, 30a, 77pts.)

….5’9” right wing .Jonathan Marchessault, up from the Lightning’s Syracuse farm team is expected to replace Callahan and not 2013 third overall draft pick Jonathan Drouin who replaced Morrow in Games 3 & 4 of the series. Marchessault has played in only four NHL games. After graduation from the Quebec Remparts he has played in three organizations; the Rangers, Columbus and Tampa.

….Eleven times in Canadiens playoff history they were down 0-3 in a series. Six times the won game four. Once (2015) they won game five. They are looking to come back to even a series for the first time ever.

….Since 2010 the Canadiens are 11-4 when facing elimination. Three times they’ve erased 3-1 and 3-2 deficits over those six years.

….In his last four elimination games (Games 6,7 vs. Boston 2014 & Games 4,5 vs. Tampa) Carey Price is 4-0, stopping 101 of 105 shots for a .962 save%.

….Facing elimination the last two games Price has stopped 46 of 49 shots for a .938 save percentage.

….Ben Bishop stopped 100 of 104 Canadiens shots through the first three games of the series; a .961%. In his last two appearances (including 3 goals on 14 shots in Game Four) he has stopped 38 of 43 for an .883 save%,

….Bishop was 27-6-1 this season with a .925save% but he is 3-3 at home in the playoffs.

….Jacob de la Rose is the only Canadiens forward without at least one goal in this year’s playoffs. Defensemen Alexei Emelin, Nathan Beaulieu and Greg Pateryn have also failed to record a goal. 16 players have at least a goal, led by Max Pacioretty‘s 4 and Brendan Gallagher with 3.

….On the road when scoring the game’s first goal the Canadiens were 17-0-0 during the regular season, the only team in the league with a perfect record. Home and away, the Canadiens were unable to score the first goal in the first five games vs. Ottawa. They have scored the first goal in four of their last six games.

….Tampa has a 3-3 record at home during the playoffs after posting an NHL leading 32-8-1 home record during the regular season.

….Over the five games of the series the Canadiens have outshot the Lightning in every game – 173 to 127, an average of just over nine more shots per game. The Corsi ‘shot-attempt’ numbers show the Canadiens at plus-78 over the five games which averages to an average of 15.6 per game.

….From the advanced stats crowd, the Globe & Mail’s James Mirtle notes that the Candiens have a 56.4% score-adjusted possession record through the first five games against Tampa.

….During the regular season the Lightning, who were the NHL’s highest scoring team averaged 34 shots on goal vs. Montreal. In the playoffs in regulation time their highest shot total was 25.

….Tampa is the only team in the NHL that has not lost three games in a row all season.

….Tampa averaged a league-leading 3.16 goals per game during the regular season. In the playoffs the are averaging 2.50.

….The Lightning are 5-0 in the playoffs when they score the first goal.

….The NHL announced Tuesday that, if there is a Game Seven in the series, it will start at 7:35 Thursday at the Bell Centre.
