1 ICECAPSDefenseman Matt Taormina scored at 3:03 of overtime to give the Syracuse Crunch a 2-1 win over the St. John’s IceCaps Saturday night at Mile One Centre in St. John’s

After a scoreless first period the IceCaps opened the scoring at 3:54 of the second period when Bud Holloway set up Gabriel Dumont but 1:06 later veteran Jeff Tambellini tied the game and it remained 1-1 until the overtime.

Syracuse dominated the first two periods outshooting St. John’s 27-15 but the IceCaps dominated the third period 12-4 in shots.  (Game Summary and Updated Season Statistics Below)

With a record of 9-5-4 the IceCaps are back on the road for six games starting with three games in three days starting Friday night at Rochester followed by Saturday and Sunday afternoon games against the Marlies in Toronto.

Notes-

….This was the IceCaps fifth straight game decided after regulation time including all four of the games in the IceCaps homestand. The IceCaps won three of those games; lost one of them in overtime and the other in a shootout.

1 icecaps III….St. John’s has not lost a home game in regulation time this season, posting a 6-0-4 record.

….With injuries and Sven Andrighetto on re-call to the Canadiens IceCaps head coach Sylvain Lefebvre was forced to go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

….Andrighetto had been playing on the left side with centre Charles Hudon and right wing Bud Holloway. Hudon was moved to left wing and Gabriel Dumont centred the line.

….Bud Holloway’s assist on the goal by Dumont gave him 20 points on the season after 18 games, second in the AHL scoring race.

…The IceCaps injury list includes forwards Nikita Scherbak, Marcus Eisenschmid, Connor Crisp and Jacob de la Rose. Healthy scratches were D Dalton Thrower and RW Eric Neilson.

….With the return of Dustin Tokarski from the Canadiens, early Saturay the IceCaps sent goaltender Eddie Pasquale back to Brampton of the ECHL.  In his three weeks with St. John’s Pasquale posted a 1-1-1 record with a 2.99 GAA and a .914save%.

….Left wing Tim Bozon missed the first six weeks of the season with a training camp shoulder injury. He has been assigned to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL where he has played three games and registered one assist.
