1 uticaThanks to a strong night in goal from Eddie Pasquale and Bud Holloway’s overtime power play goal, the St. John’s IceCaps edged the Utica Comets 2-1 Friday night in Utica.

Comets defenseman Andrey Pedan was penalized  for boarding  Michael McCarron at 1:20 of the 3-on-3 overtime period and a minute later Holloway rifled a 50 foot wristshot past Utica goaltender Joe Cannata to win the game.

Goaltender Eddie Pasquale had an excellent night. Through regulation time the IceCaps were outshot 30-13. The other St. John’s goal was scored by Angelo Miceli. Ashton Sautner scored for the Comets who are affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks. (Game summary and IceCaps season scoring stats below)

Notes

….This was the tenth consecutive game in which the IceCaps have picked up at least a point. During the streak they are 6-0-4.

….It is also the 13th time in 23 games this season that they have been forced beyond regulation time. The IceCaps are 3-4 in overtime and 1-2 in shootouts.

….Pasquale, who was called up from Brampton/ECHL has a 3-1-1 record wit a 2.33GAA and a .927 save percentage with the IceCaps.

….With the game winning goal Holloway moved into a tie for second place in the AHL scoring race with 24 pts (7g 17a).  The Marlies William Nylander leads with 26 points.

….Mark Barberio returned to the lineup after missing three games with a lower body injury and picked up the only assist on Holloway’s game winning goal. Barberio remains the highest scoring defenseman in the AHL with 19 points (1g, 18 assists)

….Five games into their six game road trip St. John’s has a record of 3-0-2. They will wrap the trip up in Binghamton New York Saturday night. Overall the IceCaps have a record of 12-5-6.

….Dustin Tokarski, who is on a conditioning stint from the Canadiens, is expected to play against Binghamton Saturday.

….Over the last two games at Albany and then Utica, St. John’s was outshot a combined 69-33 but came away with three of a possible four point.   On Wednesday at Albany, with Tokarski in goal the Devils outshot the IceCaps 38-18 and won the game 2-1 in overtime.

….LW Michael Bournival cleared waivers on Thursday and is now on the St. John’s roster but he was not in uniform the game.

….Once again because of injuries and the callups of Sven Andrighetto, Christian Thomas and Daniel Carr head coach Sylvain Lefebvre was forced to go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

….LW Tim Bozon drew an assist on the Miceli goal, his first AHL point..
