Lineup Changes

….Late changes – Charles Hudon makes his NHL debut. He will play on the fourth line with Bryan Flynn and Sven Andrighetto. Daniel Carr moves up to play with Desharnais and Fleischmann. Pacioretty with Galchenyuk and Weise. The only intact line is Plekanec/Byron/Eller.

….Nathan Beaulieu will be replaced by Greg Pateryn.

….Both teams are coming off losses. The Canadiens dropped their third regulation time loss in a row against Boston Wednesday night at the Bell Centre. Detroit suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to Washington on Tuesday.

….This is the second meeting of the season. On Oct. 17 at the Bell Centre the Canadiens won 4-1; outshooting them 41-22.

….The Canadiens have beaten the Red Wings seven consecutive times including a four game season-sweep last year. Over the seven games the Canadiens have outscored the Wings 26-13.

….The last time the Canadiens defeated the Wings seven times in a row as 1943-44.

….The Canadiens are 9-3-1 on the road this season. Detroit is 9-5-3 at home.

….Over the next 48 hours the standings in the Atlantic Division could tighten considerable (or not).The Canadiens lead the Atlantic Divison by six points with Detroit and Ottawa tied for second and Florida only two points behind them. At the same time the Canadiens are playing Detroit, Ottawa will be meeting Florida. The Canadiens will play Ottawa Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

….Nathan Beaulieu will be listed as a healthy scratch. Prior to being dazed in his fight with Columbus forward Nick Foligno on December first Beaulieu was averaging around 20 minutes ice time per game. In the three games since his ice time has been cut to between 12 and 13 minutes.

….With his new linemates Alex Galchenyuk was held off the scoresheet vs. Boston Wednesday. However, over the last eight games he has 6 goals, 2 assists.

About the Red Wings

….The Red Wings were 1-5-1 in October. Up until mid November they were scoring goals at a 2.18 per game rate. Since then it is 3.18 per game.

….Detroit may be economically depressed but this will be the 206th consecutive sellout crowd at the Joe Louis Arena dating back to 2010.

….Dustin Tokarski will make his first start for the Canadiens after 12 games on their roster interrupted by two AHL re-assignments. His only appearance this season was the final 20 minutes in relief of Mike Condon nv. 14th vs. Colorado in which he let in two goals on 13 shots as part of a 6-1 loss.

….Tokarski started 6 games with St. John’s with a 2-3-1 record with a 3.20 GAA and a .900 save percentage. In both caregories he was behind the other two goaltenders to play for the IceCaps – Eddie Pasquale – 2.33GAA – .927% in four starts; Rookie Zach Fucale 3.12GAA .907% after ten games)

….Tokarski has made one career start against Detroit – Nov. 16, 2014 he stopped 28 of 29 RedWings shots including 18 of 19 in the third period in a 4-1 Canadiens victory.

….Tokarski was sent to the IceCaps for conditioning games on December 2nd and 5th where he was 0-1-1. He stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 2-1 OT loss at Albany and 26 of 29 in a 4-1 loss at Binghamton.


….Petr Mrazek has not lost in regulation time in his last six starts and only one in regulation over his past ten (6-1-3).

….In his only career start against the Canadiens Mrazek gave up four goals against the Canadiens October 17th at the Bell Centre..
