1 mccarronMichael McCarron recorded the second hattrick of his rookie season and Eddie Pasquale stopped 45 shots as the St. John’s IceCaps defeated the Albany Devils 5-1 Wednesday at Mile One Centre in St. John’s.

The victory gave the IceCaps a two game sweep of the New Jersey Devils affiliate that included an outstanding performance from rookie goaltender Zach Fucale on Tuesday night. Pasquale stopped 45 of 46 shots including 21 in the third period to earn his fourth win in his last five starts.

Lucas Lessio who was acquired from Arizona in a trade for Christian Thomas on Tuesday, made his IceCaps debut ona line with McCarron an ed AHLpower play was 0-for-9.

Notes

….The IceCaps enter a nine day Christmas break with a 14-7-7 record. Their schedule resumes Boxing Day in Toronto against the Marlies.

1 mcarr paqu….Before scoring four goals in the back-to-back games against Albany, McCarron had been in a seven game goalscoring drought. He  now has 13 goals, two behind the AHL’s rookie leader Devin Shore of the Texas Stars.  With 24 points he is seventh among all AHL scorers.

….Bud Holloway collected one assist and now has 25 points (7g, 18a) tieing him for fourth in the league.

….Pasquale has split time between Brampton ECHL and the IceCaps this season.  With the IceCaps he is now 4-1-2  with a 2.23GAA and .935 save%.   With the IceCaps off for nine days, Pasquale was returned to the Brampton Beast.  Brampton plays two games this weekend before their Christmas break.  He will return to St. John’s when they play the Marlies in Toronto Dec. 26th.     After missing all of last season following hip surgery, he was signed to an AHL contract as a free agent in July.

….The IceCaps also released forward Luke Pither from a personal tryout contract.  Pither will also be rejoining Brampton.

….The IceCaps were without forward Jacob de la Rose for the second straight game. After missing 11 games with an injury , he returned to action last weekend for two games only to be hurt again. He is expected back after the holiday break.

….Rookie Markus Eisenschmid is also expected back after the break. He has missed almost a month with an undisclosed injury.

….Left wing Zack Kassian cleared waivers Wednesday and the Canadiens assigned him to the IceCaps.  It is not known at this point whether or not he will report. Kassian has completed the second stage of the NHL/NHLPA substance abuse programme and follow-up care phase and had been cleared to return to play.
