1 icecaps marliesThe Toronto Marlies scored two unanswered second period goals to take a 2-0 lead and never trailed in a 5-2 win Saturday night at Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum.

It was the first game in nine days for the IceCaps.

Brendan Leipsic, Richard Panik, Scott Harrington, Sam Carrick and Nikita Soshnikov scored for Toronto. Darren Dietz and Lucas Lissio scored for St. John’s.

Zach Fucale was in goal for the IceCaps who were outshot 36-26.

Notes

….The goal for Lucas Lissio was his first as an IceCap. Lissio was acquired by the Canadiens in a minor league trade with Arizona for Christian Thomas just before the Christmas break.

….The defenseman Darren Dietz led St. John’s with five shots on goal.

….Forwards Markus Eisenschmid and Jacob de la Rose returned from the injury list to play.

….The IceCaps have a 14-8-7 record and are in third place in the AHL’s North Division.

….This was the first of a five game road trip for St. John’s. They’ll play Toronto again Sunday afternoon before moving on to Rochester for a game Wednesday.
