Without forwards Daniel Carr and Sven Andrighetto plus defenseman Mark Barberio, the IceCaps were held to one goal for the third consecutive game in a 2-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. It was the third consecutive St. John’s loss, all at home and their fifth in the last six games.
St. John’s captain Gabriel Dumont scored on the game’s first shot on goal 21 seconds into the first period and AHL All-Star Matt Murray was airtight the rest of the way. A power play goal by Derrick Pouliot evened the game in the second period and Jean-Sebastian Dea scored the game winner early in the third. Shots on goal were 34-23 in favour of St. John’s including 16-7 in the third period. Zach Fucale was in goal for St. John’s.
The teams will meet again Wednesday night at Mile One Centre in St. John’s. That will be followed by two home games against the league leading Toronto Marlies Saturday and Sunday.
….After losing one home game in regulation time their their first 14 home games the IceCaps have now lost three regulation games in a row.
….The IceCaps have scored ten goals over their last six games and lost five of them.

….Newcomer Max Friberg played in his second game with St. John’s on a line with rookie Markus Eisenschmid and Lucas Lessio, who was acquired earlier in the Arizona trade for Christian Thomas.
….Former Canadiens first round draft choice Nitita Scherbak has started skating in practice with contact for the first time since he was injured on an open ice hit by Viktor Loov of the Toronto Marlies.
…. Also now practicing with the team for the first time is rookie defenseman Ryan Johnston. Johnston was a free agent signing out of Colgate University last Summer. He underwent back surgery during training camp in September.
…. Centre Michael McCarron and defenseman Mark Barberio have been selected to take part in the AHL All-Star game later in the month. Barberio is currently with the Canadiens.

….The Canadiens have reassigned left wing Tim Bozon to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL.
