1 icecaps ellisDefenseman Morgan Ellis scored two goals as the St. John’s IceCaps ended a five game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Toronto Marlies Sunday at Mile One Centre.

Special teams were the story of the game for the IceCaps. Ellis and Daniel Carr scored power play goals and Markus Eisenschmid scored shorthanded. It was the first professional goal for the German-born Eisenschmid. Lucas Lessio and Gabriel Dumont into an empty net completed the scoring. Darren Dietz recorded two assists.

It was St. John’s fifth win in eight games against the AHL leading Marlies this season.

Scoring for Toronto were Casey Bailey, Nikita Soshnikov Jeremy Morin and T.J Brennan.

Zach Fucale stopped 30 of 34 shots to post the win.

Notes –

….Newcomer John Scott took the pre-game warmup but was a healthy scratch.

….Defenseman Ryan Johnston, who was playing in his second pro game after undergoing training camp back surgery, drew an assist on the Daniel Carr goal for his first professional point.

….Going into the game the IceCaps had lost five games in a row, all at home and seven of their last eight.

….The IceCaps leave on a six game road trip started Wednesday night when they face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
