The Canadiens have recalled defenseman Darren Dietz and forward Charles Hudon from their St. John’s IceCaps affiliate.
Hudon leads the IceCaps with 20 goals and has 43 points in 56 games. Earlier this season he was up for two games and recorded two points.
Dietz becomes the 15th player to wear and IceCaps jersey this season to be called up to Montreal as a result of injury losses. It’s the first stint on the Canadiens roster in his professional career since he was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. Dietz has four goals and 16 assists in 58 games this season with St. John’s. He is in his third pro season.
With the addition of P.K. Subban, the Canadiens have nine players on their injury list, including four of the seven defensemen that started their season; Jeff Petry, Nathan Beaulieu, Tom Gilbert and Subban.
Friday’s recalls brings the number of players on the Canadiens roster who started the season in St. John’s to eight including Sven Andrighetto, Mike McCarron, Jacob de la Rose, Lucas Lessio, Victor Bartley, Mark Barberio, the injured Daniel Carr plus Hudon and Dietz.
