icecaps-sweater-iiiThings aren’t getting any better for the St. John’s IceCaps.  Saturday they blew two-goal leads twice in the third period at Springfield and Mckenzie Weegar’s goal at 1.42 of overtime sent the IceCaps to their fifth loss in their first six games of their AHL season.

The loss spoiled a four point night from Chris Terry who came to the Canadiens on a two-way free agent contract from the Carolina Hurricanes organization.  Terry, playing on a line with Sven Andrighetto and Charles Hudon registered a goal and three assists.  Hudon scored twice and Andrighetto added the other.

For Springfield, along with the Weegar overtime goal,  it was Dryden Hunt with two, Paul Thompson and Ian McCoshen.

Yann Danis was in goal for the IceCaps for the first time.  Springfield outshot the IceCaps 35-25.  The Springfield Thunderbirds are affiliated with the Florida Panthers.

The IceCaps complete their season-opening six game road trip Sunday night in Hartford.
