SUBBAN WILL HAVE TO FIGHT EVENTUALLY

History tells us nothing untoward is going to happen between Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban and Flyers Captain Mike Richards tonight in Philadelphia.

Richards started all of the talk in the dressing room following a 3-0 loss at the Bell Centre, blasting Subban’s talkative,  in-your-face playing style,  as “disrespectful”.

Richards bluntly stated that “someone” is going to make Subban pay.

“Hopefully someone on their team addresses it, because I’m not saying I’m going to do it but something might happen to him of he continues to be that cocky.”

Richards semi-veiled threats will draw league attention to tonight’s game. For that reason the Flyers will probably postpone any form of extra legal action against Subban, although he may came in for some pretty heavy forechecking, something he seems to handle without complaint.

Eventually, Subban is going to have to fight. That’s just the way it is with rookies. Hockeyfights.com has recorded eight fights involving Subban over the last four years; five of them during his junior career in Belleville. With Hamilton last New Year’s eve, he fought Jeremy Williams in Grand Rapids and two weeks later took on Rochester’s Jeff Taffe at home.

He also fought Ottawa’s Zack Smith in a 2008 training camp game. And, of course there’s that intramural scrap with Ben Maxwell during the Brossard training camp scrimmage in September.
