Canadiens Acquire Jonathan Drouin June 15th From Tampa

For the record, Marc Bergevin‘s summer was not ‘all play – no work’ despite his most vocal critics who continue to grouse about the failure to land that always-elusive first-line centre or adequately replace Andrei Markov.  Still Bergevin has successfully addressed a long list of other organizational issues.

He started his off-season with the splashy mid-June acquisition of Jonathan Drouin. He also signed nine free-agent signings the most prominent of whom were defensemen Karl Alzner and Mark Streit. Additionally, there were seven contract extensions including Carey Price‘s 84 million dollar deal.

Forty-six  of the NHL limit of fifty active contracts have been filled including the full twenty-three player main roster are signed for 2017-2018.  And Bergevin still has 8.5 million dollars in cap space with which to address whatever weaknesses that remain after training camp.
