It doesn’t take a medical degree and x-rays to know that the injury Canadiens defenseman James Wisniewski suffered in the first period of last night’s game in Edmonton might keep him out of the lineup for a substantial amount of time.
The cheekbone is just not designed to absorb 90 mile per hour slapshots. Taylor Hall’s shot, which deflected up off Wisniewski’s stick, was hard enough that it rebounded off the Canadiens defenseman back onto his stick and he was able to get a shot on Carey Price. (Video Below).
While Wisniewski was being wheeled out of the Rexall Centre somebody (Wisniewski’s wife?) took a picture of the injury, which is now developing a ghoulish facebook notoriety.
The Canadiens are still waiting for the medical determination(A but speculation is already up to a month on the sidelines.
Now what does Pierre Gauthier do? Make another trade? He will have Paul Mara in his lineup for Sunday in the Heritage game. Maybe Hal Gill will be back. Jaroslav Spacek has a knee problem we’re told. How bad, nobody’s saying. How much of the Canadiens’ future does Gauthier want to mortgage for short-term gain?
There’s been a lot of internet chatter about Canadiens possible interest in defenseman Rostislav Klesla of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The name of the always popular Chris Phillips is always out there. Maybe Gauthier can talk Ian White out of the Carolina dressing room. It’s all talk right now.
