50-Glen Metropolit EV Zug

Glen Matropolit enjoyed terrific success in his one season with  the Swiss National league six years ago.    So, after gaining unrestricted free agency from the Canadiens in July, he signed a contract with EV Zug of the Swiss National League in August.

It took him a while to get back into the flow of European hockey, but, in the final game of the regular season Metropolit scored a goal and added three assists in a 7-2 rout of  the Langnau Tigers, to win the league scoring championship.  It was the first time all season he led the league’s scorers.  It’s Metropolit’s second league scoring championship.

In 47 games, Metropolit had 15 goals, 38 assists for 53 points, tied with Stacy Roest of Rapperswil for the league lead, but Metropolit took the title because he outscored Roest 15-13.  Last week, he agreed to a one-year contract extension for the 2011-12 season.

Metropolit played for Lugano in the 2005-06 season winning the scoring championship (23g 43ass – 66 points in 43 games) and led his team to the league title.  Zug finished the regular season in fourth place in the league standings.  Davos finished the regular season in first place, one point ahead of Kloten.

Last year with the Canadiens, in 69 games, Metropolit scored 16 goals and 29 points.

One of Metropolit’s teammates is Paul DiPietro, the last active professional player anywhere from the Canadiens 1993 Stanley Cup winning team.
