J.T. Wyman broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period and the Hamilton Bulldogs went on to defeat the Adirondak Phantoms 4-1 before a crowd of 14,809 at Montreal’s Bell Centre.
Aaron Palushaj scored two goals, including an empty netter. Nigel Dawes, who was acquired from Atlanta in a trade yesterday, scored the other goal. Olivier Fortier had two assists in the game.
Danny Syvret scored the lone goal for the Phantoms.
It’s Only One Game but…….
…the player that seems to be closest to the NHL (outside of newcomer Nigel Dawes) is J.T. Wyman.
…the Bulldogs have been stripped of most of their offense because of callups by the Canadiens.
…Russian draft choice Alexander Avtsin showed signs of the skill that made him a 58 goal scorer with the Moscow Dynamo juniors but at the age of 19, lacks confidence at this level and probably would have been better served with a year in junior hockey.
….Left wing Ian Schultz, who came to the Canadiens as part of the Halak/Eller deal with St. Louis scored his first professional point in his 29th game.
….Defenseman Brendon Nash, who was called up to the Canadiens for two games earlier his month, did not stand out in this game.
….The Canadiens farm system appears to be in a development gap with a wave of NHL-ready players promoted and those left behind in need of at least another year of seasoning.
….Nigel Dawes scored his 28th goal of the season in the first period of his first game with the Bulldogs. His 45 total points instantly puts him in a points tie with David Desharnais for the team lead, even though Desharnais has been up with the Canadiens for almost two months.
Only the numbers game is keeping Curtis Sanford out of the NHL. His goals against average is 1.92 and his save percentage .930.
