There are two reports, none from official sources, that the Canadiens have lost a fourth veteran defenseman to injury.
Depending on who you want to believe, CKAC or former NHL goaltender Darren Pang Brent Sopel has either a broken arm or broken hand. Fox sports analyst Pang mentioned the injury during last night’s St. Louis Blues telecast. Funny how out of town broadcasters can get information we can’t. CKAC radio came up with the broken arm story today. Whatever, the injury apparently happened during the game against the Bruins on Tuesday.
One way or the other, Sopel isn’t available to the team right now and, because the Canadiens leave these things in the hands of the rumour mill, who knows how long he’ll be out of the lineup?
Last night the Canadiens dressed Paul Mara with some success. Mara played the game alongside Alexandre Picard. Yannick Weber was a healthy scratch.
If the Canadiens are looking toward their Hamilton farmclub, the top candidates are first year pro Brendon Nash, who was here briefly last month or Mathieu Carle who, in four years as a professional, has yet to distinguish himself at the minor league level. Hamilton’s 6’6” captain Alex Henry seems like a non-candidate after being mired at the AHL level for the last twelve years because of a lack of speed and mobility.
