The Hamilton Bulldogs can clinch the AHL’s North Division title tonight with a win over the Abbotsford Heat, a farm club of the Calgary Flames.

Once again they’ll have to do it with a makeshift defence depleted by injury and the promotion of their star P.K. Subban to the Canadiens.

Among regulars missing through injuries is top Canadiens prospect Yannick Weber and Mathieu Carle.  In Saturday night’s game in Abbotsford they also lost defenceman Mike Vernace.   Weber has been out since April 25th with an ‘upper body’ injury.  Carle has a dislocated shoulder.

Right now the Hamilton defence is made up of AHL veterans Shawn Belle, Andre Benoit and Alex Henry plus Chad Anderson and the rapidly improving Frederic St. Denis.  But, somehow, they keep winning.  The Bulldogs have home ice advantage, needing one win in either the sixth or seventh games of the series.
