Notes –

….The Canadiens special teams are in a slump.  Over the last eight games the power play is 2-for-27 (7.4%).  They gave up 7 power play goals their last 29 times shorthanded (75.8%).

….The Canadiens have played shorthanded 304 times, most times-short in the league. (Pittsburgh 2nd at 298 times short).  They rank 21st in goals given up while shorthanded.

….Alexander Ovechkin has not played since last weekend.  The Capitals elected to pull him out of the lineup for seven to ten days to heal a nagging injury (groin?) that has bothered him for the last two months.

….Two time Norris Trophy finalist Mike Green has missed 18 of the last 20 Capitals games.  He was hit on the head by a puck on Feb. 6 vs. Pittsburgh and then suffered another concussion when the Rangers hit him on the head Feb.25th.  He’s not expected back in the lineup until the playoffs at the earlier.

….This will be the last of a six game Washington road trip that started with the March 15th win over the Canadiens March 15th

….The Capitals have won 11 of their last 13 games, but are 2-2-0 since the end of their nine game winning streak.

After starting in goal for the Capitals in their 4-2 win over the Canadiens March 15th, Braden Holtby was sent back to the Hershey AHL farm team.  He was recalled last night and will make his second start against the Canadiens in twelve days.
