Now it’s Mathieu Darche’s turn to go under the knife. That makes three in the post season.
It is a given that every team is banged up by the time it winds up it’s 82 game season and whatever playoff run is in store. Sometimes we find out what the injuries are, mostly we don’t.
When we do find out, it’s usually because of post season surgery. Over the last few weeks forewards Louis Leblanc and Lars Eller underwent shoulder procedures which will keep them in rehabilitation until the fall..
RDS reported today that Darche underwent abdominal surgery this week. He suffered what was probably hernia damage sometime in early February. He sat out seventeen of nineteen games between February 10th and March 24th and then returned to score 3 goals and 2 assists in the Canadiens final eight games of the season and took part in all seven playoff games where he was most effective on a line with Lars Eller and Jeff Halpern. He’ll be fully recovered in time for training camp. Which training camp is up in the air.
Darche will be an unrestricted free agent July first. He earned 500-thousand dollars last season. Ten of his eleven goals this season were while the Canadiens were at even strength.
